What is the point of having the option of placing supply containers onto a Satellite? You can also give them Quantum Reactors.
You can't place a satellite within a fleet, so they can't share resources. However this would be a cool if you could... imagine resupply satellites with solar collectors. =)
Anyway, anyone know why these components are available?
Along with Cargo containers?

No particular reason, other than Aaron goofed when he made the data files http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
A number of mods restrict supply containers so that you can't place them on satellites or bases (only ships and drones), though...

There are a number of components with too general of vehicle type settings. Many people have reported this to MM over the years, but alas, no fixes were made.

Maybe SE V will be more consistent. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Carrier Battles mod has "sattelites" that can make use of supply storage, and that need resupply and repair after combat...
Technically they are tiny ships, and they dont fit in cargo, but you can put them into formations, fleet them up, and all kinds of good stuff.
None of that "single big stack on the wrong side of the planet" stuff http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Ok cool, I was kinda worried there was some ultra cool tactic that can utilize these supply sats. =)

Hmm.... if you put cargo bays on satellites could you transfer cargo to them?

No, units cannot contain cargo.

Mainly because it'd make the interface..interesting.
Plus you might get the issue that pops up in Starfury where you have a carrier that launches a sat, which launches ANOTHER, identical sat..ad infintium until the game crashes.

But they are so useful as low-tech armor before you research armor technology. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Heh. I should make the prototype fighter in P&Nism Episode 2, able to install fighter bays http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
