View Full Version : Damage Stats for those Special Weapons?

I've been playing SE since SEIII, but I've never figured out what the stats on the following weapons meant exactly.

Computer Virus
Wormhole Beam

A computer Virus III, the damage says 60. 60 what? If it hits the ship, it takes out the master computer, end of story.

Wormhole Beam, I haven't actually ever used this weapon, as I always figured the damage number is the distance the ship is randomly flung. A friend of mine that I recently introduced to SEIV put it on his ship cause it sounded cool. Well even at Wormhole Beam I he's sending ships fairly far away from the area of engagement.

I did a search on the sight, but I couldn't find the topic.

In both cases the numbers mean the amount of normal damage applied, as with every other weapon.

In the case of the virus you always see the MC destroyed because the MC has less hitpoints then that. If you had a mod with a MC with more hitpoints then that, or if you had a ship with more then one MC, it could take more then one hit.

The wormhole does a small amount of damage and then flings the ship to a random location on the combat map. The number has no corelation to the distance the ships gets flung.

Wormhole beams can even move the ship closer to you if you are unlucky.

Huh... I always thought the wormhole beam's damage was the distance... No wonder it's so high up on the tech tree!

I love those things. Nothing screws up an even fight more than half the enemy's ships teleporting out of weapons range. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

So then what is the number for on the Wormhole beam...?

I've always thought the damage number increased the amplitude of the random push, with higher values meaning the target goes farther away. If not, upgrades still increase range and mean it will only take you 500 hits (instead of 1,000) to get one ship destroyed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
