A few obscure bug fixes, the ability to have the game's music on your hard drive as mp3 files instead of needing the CD, a different intro screen, and having the Strategy First logo come up when you start the game. It's all mostly cosmetic changes as far as actually playing the game goes. The two big difference are that Deluxe is (or at least, will be soon) available on retail shelves, and that owners of SE4 Standard can patch up to Deluxe instead of being forced to stay with the last pre-Gold patch.

Cosmetic, unless you play a mod with seekers targetting seekers. In this case, it is crucial to be crash-free. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Although, in the case of a seeker-vs-seeker mod, only the Host, who processes the turn needs Deluxe.

Once the game is processed, gold should be enough to play your turn with.

About those bug fixes... As I've mentioned elsewhere lately, I've recently arrived from the dark ages (version 1.49). In that version there was a bug that didn't allow weapons platforms to work right in PBW. I see that's been fixed. There was also a bug that didn't allow use of both seekers and direct-fire weapons on the same ship. I've been designing ships as though that still exists, just in case. Has that bug been fixed in (or before) Deluxe?

There was a bug for this? I remember using Seeking Parasites with Plasma Discharges (seeker and direct-fire organic tech) way back in pre-Classic beta. Hmmm...

But anyway, in both Gold and Deluxe, it is very possible to use both seekers and direct fire weapons on the same ship. Carrier Battles is sort of built around that, after all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

--edit: Damn, I forgot I was saving my 1100th post for tomorrow... 5 year anniversary of signing up on Shrapnel http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Those are both organic tech. That always worked okay. If you tried putting a capital ship missle with, say DUCs, things went haywire and one or the other wouldn't fire.

Gold comes with a gold nugget. Deluxe comes with two gold nuggets and an ounce of silver oxide platinum with blue anodized trime.

Well, I've had both seekers and direct fire weapon on the same ship in Gold and it worked OK. And it wasn't organic tech. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was something like anti-proton beam and capital ship missile.

Hey, I never got my gold nuggets!

The bug was that a seeker targetting a seeker would cause a crash during combat reply... which only existing in mods...

Okay. Sounds like whatever it was, it's been fixed.
