The Last release was 1.30 - so the accurate question is what happened to .31, .32, .33, .34?

Pssttt... Not every Version gets released to the public. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif

Here is the info for 1.34/1.35 for those who have not been able to down load yet.

ersion History for Space Empires IV
---------------------------------------------------

Version 1.35:
1. Fixed - Map Editor: Empires that began at starting points on planets
would use the atmosphere of the planet. Now, if an empire starts
at a starting point with a planet, the planet will be changed to
be the same size but match the atmosphere of the empire.
2. Fixed - Invalid Index if you try to reorder an empty queue in the Set
Construction Queue window.
3. Fixed - Improved fighter launch speed during combat, yet again.
4. Fixed - Improved speed of AI processing.
5. Fixed - Sometimes a ship will not be available for selection in the
Fleet Transfer Window (even though its not part of a fleet).
6. Changed - Small Cluster Bombs, Small Rocket Pods, and Small Graviton
Beams can only be used by fighters.
7. Changed - Increased the damage from the Small Graviton Beam.
8. Fixed - Units total in the Score window was not counting units in space.

Version 1.34:
1. Fixed - Map Editor: Added "Remove Starting Point" button.
2. Fixed - Tech Area file would not load correctly if a tech area
with multiple requirements came first.
3. Fixed - Minefield tags would not be removed on the turn that you swept
the Last mine.
4. Fixed - Simultaneous Games: Combat would execute multiple times even if
the ships did not fight.
5. Changed - Increased the values from Combat Sensors by 5%.

stupid question, if I upgrade, can I continue my game in progress?

Upgrading a game in process can be done but can result in unexpected results.

Several people have two (I guess now three) installs of the game due to being in PBEM games that have not patched up to current. I have a 1.19 install a 1.30 install and a 1.35 install now.
As to diskspace for multiple installs I am thinking about seeing if I can use shortcuts to a common directory for my bitmaps and possibly other files instead of having full racial and planet bitmaps in all three installs.

Mmmm. So there's now a map editor, eh? And apparently tech areas can now include multiple requirements? Nifty. Very nifty indeed.

I love it, a map editor, now we can really have some fun with the game and even make balanced maps

I just tried the map editor. You can only edit maps that have been save 1.31 or later. So to edit earlier maps you need to create a new game in 1.35 or later and then load the old map and save it. Then you can edit in the map editor.

Starting the game in the correct player by the new command line option works in 1.35, but unfortunately SE4.EXE doesn't have the correct Version information, it is still 1.26. So I modified PBEM helper to check the executable modification date instead. It will use this feature if the date is 2001-04-11 or later.

Download the new PBEM helper from the link in my signature.

Just love the SE3 style interface for the map editor, kind of makes you feel right at home. Nice job.

I read that one of the fixes in this new patch was that troop types no longer can use cluster bombs or small rockets...
I always thought this was dumb...however I DO have 100's of ground troops equiped with cluster and small rockets.

What happens if I load this Patch? I have a good game going and I don't want anything to mess it up.

i know the designs would be unbuildable, but for the existing units it would probably cause problems, perhaps changing the components to the next thing on the list.

Existing troops will not cause problems... they will work like normal. You can even build more, but you will not be able to make new troops with thoose weapons.

I know this from testing new weapon designs in my mod.

Thanks Trachmyr!
I will install the patch now.
