View Full Version : Proportions to play the AI

Which version of proportions would be better to play the AI?
Right now I'm using the one in the deluxe SE4, and it sucks, because the AI lacks all the files to research and design ships with all the new techs that were added. The AI is not even building fighters, or carriers, and all the designs use either DUCs or Ripper Beams.
But I remember a couple of years ago playing a version of proportions in which the AI was playing very well.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks.

Probably one of the 2.x.x versions...

Thanks, I really apreciate it.
It looks like 253 was the latest version, so I will try that one.

I tried 253.1, and all the cultural buildings are in innaccesible tech. What happened?

Nevermind about 253.1
I got it to work.
For some reason it was loading the original game instead of the mod, but now is working.

Question is, is this the one with the better AI?
Too early to say, but it seems to be the one I was playing before, which was working fine.

AIC is based on Proportions, and seriously boosts the AI in a variety of ways. The latest version is 4.X if memory serves, and there should be a thread around here. You might have to go on another site to find the actual mod files, though. AIC was probably the mod you used, and I seem to recall something to that effect (I could be confusing you with someone else, though).

I wouldn't really recommend playing Proportions 2.X now: I find Proportions 3.X to be a lot better in multiplayer, and AIC should provide with a more interesting challenge against the AI.

Yes, use 2.5.3, or AIC mod, to play Proportions against the AI.

On a related note...I'm looking for someone to take over my empire in Proportions #1 game (the Daitoon). It's in a good position, well developed, at peace with all it's neighbors (who are fighting each other), and the game is well along, turn 300+ or so...I just need to cut down on my gaming obligations....Any takers?

Thanks,

Alarik

I'll take over - as long as it's not more than a dozen systems to manage. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I'll take over your Empire, Alarik. Just ask, and I can always send a couple warships here and there. Bah! I'll have to switch your Empire from "nope, ain't gonna declare war until I slaughter their allies and send half my fleet in their systems" to "unknown quantity".

I'm your friendly neighbour to the south, Kwok. Just look for the highest concentration of Stellar Manipulation, and I'll be right there. I would estimate Alarik's Empire at around twelve systems or so, but we are talking about Proportions here, so you shouldn't have to do much stuff on any given turn. Well, unless you decide to go to war, or play with diplomacy.

I wish I could help improving AI for 3.0.5, would like to (single)play it also.

AI help is certainly welcome... or are you saying you don't have the time and/or knowledge?

PvK, just add me in Alarkif's spot when you get the chance (and with Alarkif's blessings etc.).

Knowledge is the only problem. I was willing to learn, I looked into Oleg's AI changes and into the AI tutorials, but it only increased the confusion. I do not even know where to begin.

I think I have the knowledge, and could make the time to impart it... if interested, maybe we could take it up in email.

If you do it on the forums, more people could learn through observation. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
