I found this file, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the game!
Do you know why, and what I can do to change some boring message of the game?

It appears not to work in the English version of the game. Bummer, too, since it could be quite useful for modding... Fantasy Empires anyone? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Perhaps Aaron will fix it in a patch if enough people bug him?

It's not used on purpose (in fact, it's a mistake that it was included in the Classic/Gold to Deluxe patch) - apparently it's fairly memory intensive. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

How is it more memory intensive to store a bunch of strings in memory loaded from a text file, as compared to storing a bunch of strings in memory loaded from the exe? They still use the same memory... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif Perhaps it makes the game take longer to *load*, but I would willingly accept that in exchange for the ability to mod the game in that fashion just like everyone in non-english-speaking countries - especially given the stupid load screens that don't actually load the game that Aaron put into Deluxe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Oh, happy birthday Kwok! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Thanks!
Too bad MM didn't make mainstrings.txt work in the English version because that would have been a mighty gift!
