Look at the texture color.

Look at them in this thread with a darker back ground.

I agree, the left one is better.
Nice work AT.

The left one does look good, but will it still be visible on a black background?

Thanks guys, I will redo the set shortly then.

I'd have to say the left one, too. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Left as well. I don't think I have ever seen a poll on here that was unanimous...

Count me in with the unanimosity.

I still can't see a difference between the two.

Is this some sort of psycological experiment to see if you can convince people there is a difference when they are actually exactly the same? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Yes. It's all a conspiracy. It's all in your mind. We're all in your mind.

Now take off those sunglasses and look to the silver tube thingy I'm holding in my hand right now.....

It's a lot easier to see against a dark background, such as in the aforementioned post on SEnet. Not sure why AT made it transparent.

Yah, I tried looking at it there too and still saw no difference. The only way I could tell a diff was to download both pics and mess with the color balance in photoed. Then I could see they had different textures. Can't say I prefer either one though.

It's odd because when I look at them here and in the other thread they look exactly the same. Grey background squares with black cut-outs of shadow-shaped ships. I can't see any texture at all.

When I follow the link to the shipset homepage there is a shadow set there that is pictured on black backgrounds and the ships are much lighter, still a charcoal color but light enough to see all the texture details.

I'm with geoschmo here. In both this thread and the link, on my monitor the pictures are black silhouettes on a gray background. On the ship set page I see grayish textured ships with some violet color.

The grey background is due to IE's general inability to render transparent .png files. Anyway, it's easier to see the difference with the clone post on SE.net (smartDark scheme) then it is here.

Geo are you on a lap top? If not, then your display settings must be set to be very dark.

I'm not on a lap top, and I can't see any texture on the right one, and only a few pixels of non-black on the left one. They just look like black shapes.

They look like black shapes on my lap but on my PC they have a very distinc and visuable differance. I guess its the nature of the beast when dealing with dark textures. Thanks guys.
