thats pretty antagonistic, especially your second comment about being afraid of competition.

SE and GC both look like good games with different aims. they dont compete with each other, really. the more successfull each one is, the better for both.

its very likely that stardock has a anti-spam policy on their message boards. an out-of-the-blue post for some random product is, in fact, spam. i'm not going to tell them how to run their message boards, but in the interest of diplomacy i AM going to tell you not to badmouth them over here, or make backhanded "just telling it like it is, im not badmouthing anyone, just stating the facts, i swear" kind of BS posts.

somepeople like GC. some people dont. the founder of stardock has been on here on multiple occasions with constructive and usefull posts, and generally nice mature things to say. dont start any pissing matches.

People sure are touchy.

I'm just trying to spread information at a forum labeled "Everything" and then trying to get clarification.

I appreciate Stardock and Galactic Civilizations 2 also.

All-in-all, it still seems pretty lame to me to okay thought and opinions about other games and then turn around and "DELETE" them.

How do I get my links to work right?

Oy, why would you post something so huge and spammy?

To be honest, I really can't blame them for deleting the post. Think of it this way; would you like a fan of GC2 coming over here and making a post that...well essentially advertises GC2 to all who may see, on a forum that's supposed to be for SEIV/V??

Granted, here it might not be deleted, in fact I'd be surprised if it was. But we might not be exactly enthused about it either http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Also, "spammy" should mean some thing repeated over and over.
My post was just giving information in a professional advertisement way. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Yes it was a bit long but it was all information. I've seen other post longer stuff. Thats what forums are for. Forum is not "chat" even though many of us use it for that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

That's right. It was an advertisement, which makes it clearly bad form. Why are you coming here and expecting people to support you in your blatant attempt to troll/spam?

Hey man, can't we all just, you know, take it easy and chill out on the negative vibes here? *cough, cough* *uses hands to wave away bluish smoke* *cough, cough* Let's just all be like one happy family, man!

Galciv2 was fun for about 2 months. SE4 is still fun 5 years later. That's all that matters to me - if Frogboy's forum microcosm is naive, I'm fine with that. But I don't view this as us vs. them. I agree with Puke - "the more successfull each one is, the better for both."

I echo Graeme Dice's comment... but add that while your heart is in the right place, your method needs refinement. SE should be celebrated, and I'd like to see it spread around some more to a wider user base. So I slip in a post about SE every now and then on the galciv forums, but yours was too much. Space Empires forum-goers are above flamboyance.

There are more constructive ways. Please let this go and chalk it up to lessons learned =)

I think posting a large chunk of the the contents of a link that you just recommended counts as repetitive.
Here are the feature lists from www.malfador.com. (http://www.malfador.com.)

Us geezers who can remember when the "high speed" setting on their modem was 1200 bps would consider everything from the above quoted line on as a waste of bandwidth.

I think the problem was your post sounded too much like an ad. If you had made a similer post here about another game it probably would get deleted too. At the least you'd get some wet noodle lashes from the moderators, depending on our mood and whether you were a regular poster here. If someone registered and that was their first post we'd almost definetly consider it spam and chunk it.

It's not a fear of competition, it just makes good business sense. If you made a post that sounded more like a regular fan that was just expressing an opinion about another game or asking what other people thought, we wouldn't think twice about it.
