I just looked at teh Malfador Website and some old posts, and discovered that Strategy First bought Malfador and that SF is who I have to buy SE products from now on. What is this SEIV Deluxe program they're talking about? Is that the same as SEIV Gold, or is it SEIVG Plus? What's the deal? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif Also, what patch do I need if I just got SEIV Gold?

It's version 1.94. The patch is called standard to deluxe, and it can be downloaded from Strategy First. I believe it works for everything from version 1.49 through Gold.

Yep. I successfully installed a fresh installation from my original pre-Gold SEIV CD, up to the latest Deluxe version. As I recall, it required three steps - the original install and then two patches - IIRC, one to update to the first Deluxe version, and then one to update that to the latest Deluxe version.

The version is up to 1.95 now.

I still play all my turns using 1.91, since the startup procedure is far nicer.
Some mods require that turns be processed under deluxe, but Gold 1.91 and deluxe are fully savegame compatible.
The best part of deluxe, is that the patch brings all the SE4 classic gamers up to date.

I have never understood why people react so negatively to that. S1st added one menu (one click to get past), two splash screens (one more click to bypass both), and a slightly inferior intro pic. AFAIK, the worst problem it introduced is that you have to add that first menu screen to mods.

The worst part is that the patch is 75M. I had to install a BitTorrent client to get it.

1.91 starts instantly when you run the program.
1.95 is the same thing in the playing-turns department, and makes you click stuff before it even starts loading the datafiles.
What possible reason is there to use 1.95 unless you have to?

There's a few fixes and stuff and some might like the audio flexibility.
The launch screen isn't so bad, at least it gives ready access to a number of files new players might want to access. It might have nice to have included a mod launching option. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Too bad it isn't like the industry standard at all, where the launcher is a separate EXE and you can still load the game directly, bypassing it...
For reference, the BitTorrent source for the 1.94 gigantopatch is: http://kazharii.no-ip.com:6969

That's all well and good to know, but no one has still answered my question: What the heck is SEIV Deluxe? Can I live without it if I just have SEIVG 1.91-1.94?

SEIV Deluxe is the latest version of SEIV, published by Strategy First. You can live without it unless you want to run a server which allows special modded seekers which I think only Carrier Battles mod uses. But you don't have to live without it, because it's a free patch.

Free patch? I downloaded the 1.94 patch. I wasn't too sure if I could use teh 1.95 patch without the Deluxe program. I'll d/l it and check it out when I have my computer working. Thanks for the info.

Yes, free. I managed to install from my pre-Gold CD to a new computer, then run the free patches and get it to the latest Deluxe version.

The 1.95 patch either requires that you bought Deluxe from S1st (which is v1.93) or that you install the 1.94 patch first.

And Adamant, which had them before CB was out.
