Apparently the SFI forums are going away in favor of the forums at this site, as well. Can't say I'm impressed with the layout either way.

To be fair, the new site is still somehwat in development - perhaps like its namesake? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

"Space Empires Universe"??? That sounds... vaguely familiar http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

It was the name of the SFI forums already.

4 posts in the whole forum, looks like we should rather continue to discuss here http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hey at leasts it is its own site/forum, and not part of the SFI forum as a whole...which may be good an bad...it is a start...I'm sure Shrapnel can't wait to get rid of us... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Starshadow: no one says you have to move. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif I imagine a large chunk of discussion will still be right here.

..because if they delete this forum we'll invade Shrapnel General! Muahahaa. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

(if they were going to nuke us it'd happened a long time ago. I doubt this forum will go away until the activity level drops to nil)

For one thing, people here buy shrapnel products.

Yeah, I probably would never have heard of Dom3 had Shrapnel not kept this board around http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Not to say I *will* buy Dom3 right away (budget's kinda tight at the moment), but I'm likely to at some point...

That site has nothing on SEnet. Mediawiki is a much nicer backend than the weird "books" of Drupal. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif SEnet has "journals," which are like blogs. Maybe I could hack in a basic user web site system... hmm...

I'm trying to connect to the site but I am getting an error. I've never seen this before. Is the site temporarily down?
-----------------------------------------------------------

"Unable to connect to database server
This either means that the username and password information in your settings.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the MySQL database server. This could mean your hosting provider's database server is down.

The MySQL error was: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061).

Currently, the username is root and the database server is localhost.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
For more help, see the Installation and upgrading handbook. If you are unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your hosting provider."

maybe it had something to do with my post to have SF scrap the whole thing (we really dont need ANOTHER total SE community) and just make spaceempires5.com point to a portal listing all the SE communities that do exist, and maybe have a table on that same page with the latest SE news in it from SF, as well as maybe a forum (at most) with the sole purpose to report bugs and submit improvement/feature requets.

I disagree with you Inigma. The publisher needs to have a website supporting their title. Mind you the site is intended to replace the current SFI SE Universe forums.

I'm eager to see this new site! Will someone copy/paste or some thing much of the material here to there? Though, most of the material here is SEIV. Especially, the stickies/tacks would be good sor the SEIV section on the new site. I assume that will be done anyway.

It's nothing spectactular right now. It consists mostly of remarks directed at improving the site's useability. Essentially it has forums, allows users to create groups around mods etc., make books (like manuals or FAQs etc), and blogs and crap of that sort.

I think we was speaking from experience, not from "I just connected and this is how it looks".

I was on it just a few hours ago. Warmaster must have it down to work at our nitpicking.

I've had access to the site since Friday and it was up earlier today before going down. Unfortunately it's attendants only seem to be 9-5ers so I doubt we'll see it back up until tomorrow morning.

Except that blogs require you to talk about your 20 trans-gender cats, whail in self-pitting exestential angst, and generally tell everyone who is willing to listen what a muppet you are.

To be quite blunt. I don't like the site.
It feels (and looks) messy. Like AT posted there, I have some reservations about the forum system.
I rather stick here and occasionally look at "that other site". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Checked out that site. Needs work. I'll stay here until I'm forced off http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Thanks again Shrapnel!

That is to say, I do think we'll all (vets and newbies alike) need one central place to "hang", which will probably become that site, IF attention is afforded it. But for now, this is the place to be imho...

hmmm... didn't see that one. The "lol" was directed at the brother-in-law analogy.
