I read in another thread that SE5 features "directional damage". What exactly does that mean? When I am shot at from my front side, is the armor I have at my back side useless?

Armor isn't directional, armor first then components. Components on the side you are hit are damaged first if you have no armor, at least this is how it looks to be working for me, maybe I'm imagining things.

Yeah but is this right/left, front/back, or all 4?

The side you are hit. If the shot hits the left of your ship components on the left of the ship are damaged.
Armor though isn't affected by direction, it is deducted from one till its destroyed and then skips onto the next, as for order I think it goes upper to lower decks front to back left to right, or maybe the order you stick it on, which would be the way I stick it on.
It has all four. Which I realise is what you was after, sorry ,im half asleep.

Which doesnt make any sense if there are no restriction on what you put where. For example, if weapons have no 'arc', then putting weapons on the 'back' of ship can protect them if you are moving towards the enemy when you are hit? That makes no sense to me.
If its going to be directional, then there needs to be a system of logic to where components can go. Aside from that, what is the significance of the 'decks'?

The extra decks are just there to give you more room for components.

It isn't front/back/left or right.
It is arbitrary angles as far as I can see.
