Purchasing SEV Online

As a European player I'm a little annoyed that SEV won't be released here at the same time as it will be in the US (http://www.strategyfirst.com/forum/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=58;t=000060).
However, I understand why this may not be possible, but I am not really that intent on getting the boxed edition, I would be fine with downloading the game. From what I can tell Strategy First has a policy of letting players download many games from their website (http://www.strategyfirst.com/en/games).
My question then is this: Will Space Empires V be available to download from the strategy first website and if so, how soon after release?

It is quite likely that it will be available like that.

Do be extra-careful, for there were "issues" with the copy protection last time around with Se4 deluxe.
If you can get a download-now-and-ship-a-box-later option, that would be best.

Yes the combo of instant download and cheap but slow shipping the CD by surface mail would be ideal for us in Europe IMO.

So when you talk of buying online and shipping later, does this mean buying the game twice?

For SE IV SF1 offered a combo deal with download and CD together at a price lower than the combined cost of each individually.
