There have been small fan get-togethers in the past, but we are going to have one. All the cool kids are going to be there. There are some details to be ironed out, and this is where your vote comes in. So get with the voting and commenting.

South Dakota is a very central location, things are nice and cheap here. I should be able to get us a large room/hall to hold it in. I think my universities computer club and maybe even the university itself would be happy to give us an area to do this in and I should be able to get computers to play se5 on and people can bring their on computers to play se5 on. Late October would be great or November would also be good but we need to make sure its not during Thanksgiving.

Just had another idea for doing it in South Dakota. The gaming club here hosts a gaming convention early in November. We could do it at the same time and I could colaberate with them. So if you also like table top war games and M:TG and other types of things it would be perfect.

Also on that note Shrapnel could come and setup a booth here to show off their different games and such. Booth space is free and we will help you get setup.
Edit: Heres some info about Nanocon from last year lol. The details are some same I believe except the date obviously. If there is serious interrest about doing the SE5 thing during Nanocon I can get more up to date info.

Vegas baby, oh yah.
Hotels in Vegas aren't that expensive at all if you stay off the strip. Split it with 2-4 people (don't tell 'em you have that many at the desk), and it's not much at all. There are decent places for like $40 a night (maybe a tad more on weekends).

Well, I'll be heading up to San Fransisco the weekend of Nov. 4th. And Vegas could be an option from mid- to late-October. South Dakota, however, is a bit far, especially when I got classes to not fail.

hmmm, haven't done any big vacation this year. If I can work it into my schedule, it is certainly something to consider.

For those that find North America a distant and expensive prospect, would there be interest this side of the pond for a UK or EU- based party? Would be quite cool to have it at the same time, and then maybe run some internet games between the two groups. Maybe even 'merge' the parties via webcasting and big screens..?
(BTW I am NOT offering to organise any such EU-party. Unless it was right in my neighbourhood I probably wouldn't even be able to attend myself)

*cough* UK *cough*
But what would you do at a launch party...
Drinking/Socialising?
Actually play the game?
Showcase in-the-works projects?
Just a regular party in honour of the launch?
I suppose it depends on how many people planned on turning up for a start...

Why do you have to have all those places out west? Why not one in Ohio, where the PBW server is located? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Or did the PBW server move up to Canada by Tesco? Grumble grumble http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

No, it's still here. But it doesn't run SE5, so maybe if you are talking about locations for the SE5 launch party the location of the PBW server doesn't make the most sense. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

SOUTH DAKOTA is "out west"??? I'd have described it as "back east" if you asked me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
And let's stop and think a sec here...November...in South Dakota....
Uhh, can you say "cold", boys & girls? Can you say "snow" and "tire chains", and most of all, "freezing my *** off?"
Of course you can!
Now let's think about San Diego in November....mmmmm, warm, sunny, beaches, girls in bikinis...
Obviously, South Dakota is the best choice! (cough cough)

Vegas will be nice and warm too, though it lacks the beaches. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Tire chains? I've never even seen a car or truck with tire chains. Also its hardly that cold around these parts the average temp for this area in November isn't even freezing.
Also the average temp for san diego is 62F with half the month cloudy or partly cloudy with rain. Hardly beach weather.
Edit: Also on the west coast you have all the smog and crime and hippies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Hey, you're making it sound like my kind of place!
I voted for San Francisco, though either Vegas or South Dakota would be equally practical for me. I could make it to any of them. Actually, I could make it to anywhere other than the Eastern US or Canada.
As for drinking...though I'm under 21, I could bring my own...um...drinkable substances http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well, since I live 10 miles from San Fransisco, I'm obviously voting for that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Plus, the next month or so is the perfect time for since we're not too busy on our next project yet.
I do have to say that South Dakota would be a bit too far for me, though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
