It appears the toxic injectors just plain dont work or do what they are supposed not sure if anyone else has had this problem. Generally liking to play the evil type race they felt like the perfect choice but they werent working

Sent was pretty annoying to get a fleet obliterated bc they do no damage of any kind and have no effect. Did multiple sim tests, its pretty funny to watch a ship get hit repeatedly and have it lose no crew, armor or shields.

Is it possible one needs to lower the shields and/or armor before injectors can have an effect?

Currently the special types need armor and shields down - which IMO needs to be able to have penetration amounts in the damagetypes.txt rather than skipping over those entries as it does now.

Virtually every "special" weapon requires that the shields and possibly armor be down. You can tell by looking in the text file for weapons. It will tell you whether or not it skips shields or armor.
This being the case, since you are playing an Evil race, you might want to introduce your strategic commander to the airlock, sans suit http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

What is then the advantage of the special weapons if I have to destroy first both shields and armor??

Not much, unless you are into capturing ships relatively intact...

That's why I suggested below it needs to use the penetration entries first in the damagetypes.txt before skipping to the special type ability... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I like the idea that special weapons have to get through shields (and sometimes armor) before they will work.
All it really means is that you also need to research shield depleting weapons and include them, in addition to your "special weapon"
Most weapons don't skip shields and armor, why should the special weapons?

It's really for gameplay reasons that special weapons should be able skip at least armor in many situations. If not, the weapons will be less useful because if you've already taken out the defenses and a normal weapon would likely destroy all the weapons on the target ship during the next volley anyway. So it doesn't make it practical to keep slow re-loading and limited use weapons it that case.

Special weapons have to get the armor down. But the Toxin Injector isn't a special weapon and it is supposed to skip shields and armor.

There is a "Burn Armor" damage type which damages only armor, complementing the "Shields Only" type; I don't know if any stock weapons use it.

Oops - that's right. "Kills Crew" is not an only type. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

It's used by the "Alloy Burner Missile" available in the Temporal tree. And no I did not name it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Yeah i tested it vs only shielded ships, vs shield and armor and vs no armor no shield and they do not work period.
No crew is killed and no components damaged. Try it out they work in no situations. I tried it before i started the thread.

It wouldn't be the only damage type not working... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
