Howdy folks,
I'm thinking about what to do for my next map project, and one thing I'm interested in is creating a map where the terrain reflects the background/theme of specific nations. It would be an 8-10 player map, with 80-100 provinces, and pre-set starting locations for the selected nations. The idea is that, for instance, Kailasa would start in a heavy jungle area with overgrown ruined temples, or Agartha would start in a region of subterranean tunnels.
It will be set in the Early Ages. What I want to know from you is, which nations should I use? Any feedback is appreciated. I'm going to ask Kristoffer about this as well.

This sounds like a great idea; I've always loved your maps.
If you're doing an underground graphic section, please please give Abysia some love with a fiery/lava section too. Depending on how the map is laid out, it would be nice to have snowy peaks with little eyries for the Caelites for contrast.

Whoo, I'd love to see an underground start for Agartha and Abysia!
I think the players could be:
- Abysia
- Aboleths
- Agartha
- Atlantis
- Caelum
- Ermor
- Marverni
- Sauromatia
(- Ulm)
(- Arcoscephale)
Less European mix could be achieved by replacing Ermor with Tien, Marverni with Kailasa and Sauromatia with Yomi. Do as you feel best. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hm pick what you want, but I would like to see Ermor on the list at all costs! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Thanks for the feedback, folks, I'll take those opinions into account.
It occurrs to me that one problem with lava and undergroundd provinces is that there's no battle background for those types of terrain. I wonder how hard it is to make a new battle background...

Some nations exist through all the ages, and stays on the same kind of area. Agartha is all mountains through the ages, EA Ulm starts is forest/mountain, MA benefits from resources in there and Black Forest is certainly forest/mountain type as well, etc. Ermor -> Pythium doesn't quite fit that way, but Sauromatia -> Pythium would. C'tis lands change over time, so that's not good. It'd be nice if the map was good in all three ages, but it's not that important.

Thanks BJM -- It still boggles that errors are showing up on a 2-year-old map. I'm talking to someone about proofing my maps, so hopefully I can cut down on thse issues in the future.

Hey Jason, quick notice. The map that shipped with Doms3: Parganos (or something) has a bug, I think. It started me as Caelum on a little island. I was adjacent only to 4 water neighbors and no land neighbors. I learned the hard way that flying creatures can't fly over water.

I am here by a prompting by Gandalf...
I am looking forward to this map, or any other Jason_Lutes map! Here are some encouraging icons:

Nice map. It has a very "story" type of feel to it that will appeal to RPGers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Caelum
C'tis
Ermor
Helheim
Kailasa
Marverni
Oceania
Sauromatia
Ulm
Vanheim
And here's another sneak peak:

Just want to say that the sneak peeks of that map are some of the most beautiful things I have seen. I think the potential is there for some really amazing maps, and yours just rock.
That is all.
