What do you take me for, New Guy? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Haha, I guess I'll put your antics down to a random event and move on... But, man, that was some choice decision to make on turn 1 of a subbing tenure http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Also, my hat's off to Djo, who seems to have put the Chicken of the Sea in his place. An exciting battle, to be sure, although the ending was sour.

We, the mighty nation of Agartha, today celebrate a great victory. The Society of Learned & Pious Necromancers, most of them diseased and armed with little more than limp drinking straws, yesterday slaughtered hundreds of the cream of R'lyeh's "manhood". (We are not 100% they are men, but we are unwilling to examine their...whatever they have below their belts...in order to be sure. Scholarship has its limits.)
This day shall be celebrated annually until the end of time, or the end of the Agarthan empire, whichever comes first.
We predict that next month's castle storming will be substantially less spectacular, as there are approximately 10 living beings in the province, both sides combined.
We are also pleased at being Not First To Die In This Game.

November 27th, 2006, 08:54 PM
Rejoice in your petty victory, fools. We may have lost the spearhead of our army, but your entire military has been reduced to a few senile old men while your fortress remains under siege, its walls reduced to rubble.
Believe you me, the second wave will not be a long time coming, and then we will see what is what.
Mark my words, there will be no annual celebration, except that of the end of the Agarthan people.

And Ermor had used a huge army to crush the life out of Patala. Ironically though, I think had Patala not routed they might have survived yet.

Here's one report for you: the so-called Society of Learned & Pious Necromancers is no more. Those pretentious old fools greatly overestimated their power, now their corpses rot in the field and their minds have been harvested to serve the empire of R'lyeh. With those stubborn geezers gone, we expect the remaining Agarthan armies to surrender shortly.

battle report for the details hungry crowds.
Ermor side:
14 crystal mages, *lots* of cheap undead spam commanders and units, a contingent of unholy knights, some lictors and many longdead velites, triarius etc.
Patala side,
2 nagini and 6 nagarishi, 7 gurus and yogis, 3f 3a 1w 3e 3d ghost king, few archer units (markata, atavi, bandar) and vanara swordmen.
first round,
Patala: gurus, yogis mind duel and kill a few crystal mages.
Second round,
Patala: mass blade winds (effect is not that great).
Ermor: legions of steel, Gifts from heaven and blade wind in return.
next rounds are more or less the same.
unholy knights break through the gates, massacre some summond elementals and attack the ghost king which is fully buffed and isn't much impressed with the attack.
And then some gifts from heaven hit some units and commanders of Patala and cause Patala's units to route.

My lizards are very strong minded and won't be troubled if they lack such an overrated thing like supply. You will be a tough nut to break, but I shall bring your castles down even if it requires siege ramps composed of my pawns' corpses. (Please don't raise them)
Your plan is too obvious and I don't know why your neighbours haven't realized it yet. You just sit there in your not-so-fancy castles gaining gems, research levels and those damn crystal mages and then BLAM! Oh, I dunno. The mainstay of your armies was clunky and easily interceptable, and I doubt you could have done much with stealth forces of black centaurs and satyrs given my insanity dominion and ubiquitous freespawn hordes. Some sort of confrontation would have been inevitable. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Jurri
February 5th, 2007, 10:33 AM
Ah, thanks guys, for the game!
So I had 8 of the 15 victory points in the final scoring... I have to say, the last 4 were much easier to attain than the first http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
There was some neat intrigue like the peace with Man, and directing Pan against R'lyeh... Also plenty of warring. Fun all around, although Mictlan certainly proved quite powerful a nation, which possibly made the game a bit less exciting than it could have been http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Of course, my corner position did its share, too.
Incidentally, I didn't sacrifice a single slave for dominion from around turn 10-20 onwards: My VPs seemed to spread my dominion quite enough. I'm sure I would have gone positively insane if I would have had to manage the sacrifices... Already, due to the extreme price of laboratories, I had to manage my blood hunting by hand since I couldn't afford laboratories in the hunting provinces. (Ferrying slaves around with scouts... You can guess I didn't hunt nearly as much as I otherwise would have. I suppose the answer to that is to concentrate your hunting to one or few super-heavily patrolled provinces, but that has its own set of problems.)
It would be nice if there was a structure you could build for cheap (two scouts cost 60g, so...) that would allow for the transfer of blood slaves to the gem pool, if laboratories really must be that expensive. Oh, well, I suppose if you want the blood you must pay the price, even more so than in dom2.
