See subject. Steam gets you a discount, SFI gets you free Starfury.
The EB games collection is a single-disk set with SE5 and SE4 deluxe. The CD is also somewhat unreliable- no idea if the other CD sets will be the same way..

You wouldn't be able to reinstall, unless they released a fix-patch beforehand.

I had a problem installing setup.exe from CD. The work-around was to copy setup onto C:, then running from there.

The Steam question is a legitimate one in light of the folding of Triton who were doing the online distribution for Prey but I would expect Valve to release a patch to remove the online authentication. Maybe "expect" isn't the right word, maybe "hope" is.
I've pre-ordered on Steam.

I purchased from EBgames and the game installed fine from the disk. Sounds like a QC issue.

Do not get it over Steam if you have a choice, I have defeded Steam as a method of distributing games before but I do not believe getting Space Empires V over Steam is the best way to go. It is just not the right kind of game for that style of distribution.
