View Full Version : SEV Gameplay tip request

When playing SEIV I use the construction queues screen a LOT, and one of the most useful features to me is the xx/xx facilities information that tells me at a glance what planets have built their facilities to the max limit.

I can not figure out how to get that information from the queues screen in SEV? I can't find a layout/filter combination that lets me know I can ignore a planet with NONE being built because it's already filled 5 of 5 facilities slots. In a large game, if I'm trying to make sure I'm building facilities at all planets that have remaining space to build facilities, without having to needlessly click on planets that are at the maximum build already, what menu/view/filter would you suggest I use? Am I just missing something right in front of me? Thanks for any suggestions you could provide.

Um. Nice warp point layout there.

Anyway, remember that in SEV space is measured in kilotons, like cargo. You're looking for facility space used and facility space total, on the colonies screen.

Thanks for the response. That's from a really long game I was doing a lot of clowning around in. Think I have 6-7 ringworlds in that one and I'm still ranked #2!

I see what you mean about using that view from the colonies screen. Doing it that way you have to double click the planet, then select the queues crane from the orders menu in the lower right (which has a bug I discovered in that it blanks out if I minimize the game and then go back to it).
It would require less clicks to have that facilities view filter in the construction queues menu. Not sure if I'm making myself clear in what I'm trying to do.

Also, in SEV you can create custome layouts. I have not tried to create this layout yet though.

I took the tutorial and read most of the itty bitty print in the manual but don't recall seeing how to do that?!

You can create a custom layout that includes what you need, especially as Tim say total and used facility space.
In my games I also include:
- can build ship yes/no
- cargo space used and total
- item under costruction
- remaining time of construction

If you select the "layout" in the contruction list, you will find at the bottom of the available layouts "create" and "edit" custom layout. chose the first time "create" and you get the list of possible items you can include in your layout (remember space is limited!). Chose whatever you need and give the layout a name.

No no, I ment you use those two as part of your custom layout. I found those two on the list of colonies, I didn't look on the construction screen.

Got it Tim. Thanks! Is there a way to temporarily disable hotkeys? I was trying to name a Trade Treaty, well Trade Treaty, and the tutorial window keeps popping up and down. I'd suspect this could interfer with ship & planet names with T's in them??

Yes, you can change it so that you have nothing, just the name, or the full description.

OK, I looked under empire options and don't see it, where do I go to disable hotkeys? Thanks for the help!

Go to the main menu at the top left and select options, then scroll down to 'help text' and select the option you wish.

Hmm, I'm not talking about the popup help, I'm talking about the hotkeys. Anytime I press T, the tutorial window comes up and I can not type the letter T anywhere in the game without that tutorial window popping up and down. If I want to name something, like a trade agreement, with the name "Trade Agreement" I can't type the letter T without that Tutorial window coming up and down?

I think they should have made the "T"utorial window require a shift first, like the other hotkeys?

Sorry, my mistake. You can change all that too. Go back to the main menu and then select controls. You can customize the hot keys to whatever you want.

Thanks tmcc. I appreciate your information. I still don't see a way to stop the "T"utorial menu from popping up in those controls when T is pressed. Can you go into your Empires menu, select a race, select send a message, and type T and NOT have the tutorial window pop up?

Yes, typing T or t did not bring up the tutorial window.

The 'T' problem is only confined to the "built-in" tutorial. I'm not sure if you can alter this hotkey at all.

That's what did it. I had saved the start of the tutorial, played thru the tutorial, then started a second game from that initial save. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Many Thanks!
