Will Dom3 use the Dom2 version of Middle Earth with no problem? Or will I need to change anything?

Probably not. You might want to change the icons' size, or perhaps the color used for texts, but in general it should work about as well as it did for DomII.

ah, i am not good at doing that kind of stuff.....is there anyone out there that would like to re-do the Middle Earth map?
Actually, I will install it into Dom3, try it out....will let you all know how it looks....then, if it doesn't work right, maybe I can ask some of you map makers out there to make one?

I have tried, it says cannot place starting province. So no it will not work. Of the Dom2 maps I could find, alot seem not to work with Dom3. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

yeah, just found that out....could not find a starting province....
any modders out there want to make me a happy person? Not that my happiness means much to anyone...but still, it would make me very happy, as it was my favorite map from Dom2

I just found out as well. All Dominions II maps should work on Dom3. It might be a bug on Dom3, or some sort of small chance that no one noticed, or some strange way of erroneously doing the .map file that happened to work on DomII but doesn't on Dom3. It needs attention, any way. Thanks for bringing it up. Has anyone else noticed old maps not working?

well, i would try to fix it....but i really have no idea how to. And I don't have the energy (newborn infant) to mess with it....I barely can play in peace. ;-)

The middle earth map for Dom2 works with Dom3 as long as you do not select any underwater nations.

Well that is handy to know! I hope the posters above read this.
BTW, where is this ME map for DOM2? I'd like to try it in Dom3. Would someone please post a link?

It used to be at : http://www.ascensiongames.com
However the link to the map seems dead. Maybe there is another spot, or somebody can share it ? Thanx

Or if someone can provide a link to where a good map image of middle earth can be picked up... map makers might create an updated middle earth map.

While it's not hard at all to find a nice map of Middle-Earth, getting permission to use it for free is a lot harder. Especially one that has high enough resolution to create the epic dominions atmosphere we all know and love.
I guess the easiest way to get hold of one is if the dom2 map could be made available for download again.
Edit: I've may have spoken too soon. A LARP happy friend of mine just sent me two 300 dpi images of middle earth. I'm not sure how usable they are though since they got Copyright Tolkien Enterprises branded on them.

As long as we don't use the map as a way to earn money it will be fine. Tolkien Enterprises won't mind more popularity of their work as long as no one is making money off their work.

I guess you're right. I'll attach the images to this post.

The DomII map North-West Middle-Earth, the one previsouly available from Ascension Games, is now attached to this post.
There's a bug in that a random Water nation may be chosen despite #seaplayers 0, but if you choose the nations that you want in, you can play it just fine.

Was the bug that water nations don't work present in the Dom II version, or is this Doms3 specific? If so, how hard would it be to fix it? I have Gimp; dunno if that's any good for this.

It's a bug in Dom3 and the option to let the game assign random nations. The random selection does not take into account that some maps do not have water provinces to support water nations. It ignores the map setting "#seaplayers 0".
