i'm looking for some sprite sets for mapmaking. i can't seem to find anything much out on the internets and i am really quite terrible at drawing sprites. i would basically be using the sprites to demo the capabilities of my map generator, which can see screenshots and discussion of here (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showthreaded.php?Number=434967) and here (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showthreaded.php?Number=446398) and also at my site, which is linked in my sig, though it is frightfully out of date.
if you should feel so inclined to help out, here are the guidelines for sprites:
pure black is transparent
do not use pure white, this color is used to mark capitals
extra black space around a sprite will change the look of a map. the total dimension of the image is used for calculating how far sprites are placed from one another
image format is 24 bit uncompressed tga
the mapgen is designed so that the user can modify pretty much every aspect of it from sprites and background colors to dimension, wrapping and terrain proportions.

perhaps this thread could also be used as a general repository of map sprites for all mapmakers.

I looked awhile back for trees. Never did anything with it and I have no idea where I got them or if I can give them. Im sure the names are intact so maybe you could do a search at image.google if you are concerned.

hmm, i sorta like the trees.jpg, too bad they are cut off, i'll have to modify them a bit to use them
thanks for the help

I happened to find this one when DominionsFan's new map reminded me of another map of the same name.

yeah, those are pretty much the sprites i am using now. i think i use the same mountains, just split apart. they loook fine on thier own, but when i try to put them on with anything like grass sprites it looks overly disproportionate.

These are actually just trimmed, raw, bmp screens from Age of Wonders. Never got around to taking them further. Hope they can be of use to you. If not, perhaps for another able bodied sprite editor. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

those look real cool, they might be a pain to trim up, but i think the effort would be worth it, thanx

What about extracting sprites from old games like Lords of Magic? It still looks nice.

thats fine with me. in the end, sprites are user defined with mapgen, you could use smiley faces as sprites and it wouldnt care. wouldnt produce a very nice looking map though

Whit this program you can convert Age of Wonders 1 sprites, the catch that I don't have AoW, so you need someone who has.
edit - wrong link
