I can't seem to find a way in the game to tell major empires from minor ones. Anyone know if there's a way?

Minor empires all have something in thier empire info that says "They can't use warp points" or something along those lines. Also, it seems all of the major empires are Tyrannies.

In your list of known empires in the game, all minor races have the same ship set and are sorted to the bottom of the list of known races.

Yes, the major ones blow you up; the minor ones don't.

Heh.
Another way: If you're playing with "three homeworlds" set in your game, minor races only start with one homeworld. I imagine this is also true for 5 and 10 homeworlds.

I can usually tell right away by the empire flag. Minor races have single-color solid flags and major ones have "stuff" on 'em. Usually anyways...

Also the major races (at least if you are playing against a standard AI) will have race names which are identical to their empire names, e.g. the Jraenar Imperium will be populated by Jraenar. Minor races, you never know - you might have the Wurtuy Consortium populated by a race called the Juxxwiz http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Thanks for the responses. I figured there was some way (ways) to tell, but didn't see anything obvious.
