#dom2title AomOrc 3.01 - by Ballbarian
#imagefile AomOrc301.rgb
#domversion 300

#defaultmapzoom .75
#description "My second map with base image created in the Age of Mythology editor and some additions and modifications in GIMP.

259 provinces, 227 of these are land and 32 are under water.
Suitable for up to 10 land and 2 water players.
Map Version: 3.01"

This is a quick conversion of my Dom2 map over to Dom3. Really the biggest change is the utilization of the transparency made possible by converting it to the rgb format.

Disclaimer:
I am not sure how it will act if you use the random nation selection feature since there are only 2 valid starts for water nations and it sounds like the random assignment does not take this into account.

11/11/2007 - Updated to 3.01
Removed stray pixel & renumbered map file to accommodate.

If you find any missing neighbors or mislabeled provinces, please let me know. Enjoy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Here is a thumb:

This was an in game shot using the map background (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=463384&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1) that was uploaded by Jason Lutes. Mileage may vary depending upon the background that you use. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hey Balbarian -- how do you get a transparency effect?

Dominions 3 supports transparency in TGA files. You just need to make a TGA format picture that has transparency in it.

I have not tried it with tga files. I took my existing tga map and converted it to rgb with GIMP. Then I removed the parts that I did not want to show simply by erasing them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I currently have a couple of other projects in the pipe playing with the transparency as well. I think some really interesting maps can be done this way. Looking forward to seeing what people with real talent (Jason!) can do with it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The map is broken.

Note province #213 (Ivermark). It's on the upper landmass, one province in from the left edge, two provinces in from the river. It's roughly pentagram shaped, it's farmland.

Note, also, province #212. (Dommen). There are some slight differences. It connects to #214 (Akesta) and it isn't farmland.

Clicking the left half of the province gets Dommen, the right half gets Ivermark.

Thank you for pointing out your find Loren. I have played several games on this map and never spotted that extra pixel.
I am attaching the fixed map image & map file to the thread topic. The new version is 3.01.

What I wondered is why you don't use any natural borders except for that river. The ring around the swamp for example.

Extra pixel? It's a whole extra province!

I only spotted it because I owned one of them and the AI the other.

Because this map was originally made for Dom2, before border mountains were all the rage. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I prefer border mountains and choke points (natural borders) myself.

@Loren,
As far as the Dom3 engine is concerned, 1 white pixel denotes a province. The location in question had 2 white pixels adjacent to one another.

Your welcome.
