View Full Version : First of the New Orks?

I found a program that allows me to import POV-ray files (milkshape) so I can make my models in POV, and then use milkshape to skin and convert them to direct x files.
I finished the model for the first of the New SEV Ork ship set, although I think I will call them something different this time to avoid and copyright issues; I think I will probally name them the Bubothak (boo-ba-THAK).
I'm attaching an un-skinned picture of their Frigate.

Can anyone tell me how to put a picture directly into a post so it can be viewed without having to download an attachment?

The program that was supposed to be able to convert POV meshes so I coul use them in milkshape evidently thinks there is an error in the POV file, so this is going to take longer than I thought.
Does anyone know of a mesh converter that can convert a text triangle mesh, and convert it into some other form of file?

Easiest way to do it is to first upload the image as an attachment, then edit the post, adding [image ]image URL here [/image ] wherever you want the image to show up, (without the spaces in the image tags, obviously).

OK, what did I do wrong with getting the picture in the post now?
Does anybody know much about skinning? I got my frigate into milkshape, and can export it into a wide variety of formats, followed a tutorial on making a UV-map with lithunwrap, and can get the skin colored and back on my model. But, some of the skin sections end up inverted when I put it back together in milkshape; went through thier question and answers and found its a common problem and the solution they give isn't working for me. does anyone know a lot about milkshape that can help me out with this, or know of a different program (one that allows inveriting skins, or making it double sided) that I can use from lithunwrap
Thanks

That is not the URL of an image, but to the forum script that stores attachment info. You need to get the URL of the image itself:

For reference, it is better to upload PNGs or something than bitmaps. Most apps let you save as PNG already, and there is no color loss with PNG (other than 8-bit PNGs, ofc).

I can see the value of being able to get the skin the right way around, but this is an Ork ship we're talking about. It's built from scrap so it really shouldn't be a problem if the armour plating appears back to front.

Imperator Fyron - I'm still not getting it right.
Randallw - Guess I said that wrong, what I ment by inverted, was that milkshape would put the skin on the inside of the model in some places, and leave the outside black.
I got it worked around, I can fix it by exporting the file and opening it with anim8or. I'm attaching the skined version of it now.

You still have to use the image tag, you just need to use the url of an image. However, it appears that it does not support bitmaps.

Note that that is a very good thing.
BMPs are pretty much the worst image format to try and use on ye olde internet. And to inflict a BMP on a dialup user would just be mean. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
This is what you want to do:
Conveniently, this is <2% of the size of your BMP.

Thanks for the help, I also thought the / before the image after the url was like the space before the url.
Thanks again
