Hi. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif My idea is:
"Evolve to Energy-Based Lifeform."
mhm. :] This could give you a way to win without having to kill everybody else, hyper-colonize, outscore hugely or wait out the clock - a peaceful means of winning. It would be a number of sequential and perhaps far-flung techs on the tree that once you unlock, you can build certain components. When you've got them all you can start the process, and after your whole population is "processed", you've won!, you're pure energy!, squabbles over planets and power no longer concern you.
how's that sound http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/beerglass.gif

What if some of the races are already Energy based lifeforms?
Maybe evolve into "Q"-like godbeing or building a god machine like from outlaw star would make more sense.

I was thinking about something like this, and I arrived to this conclusion:
Victory conditions is a mix of tech level and population amount.
other stuff are:
70% galaxy colonized
400% score
95% total tech

I suggested something like this long ago in the beta process. I called it 'ascension' and it's very easy to implement. Just have a 'special' location for population to migrate to when certain conditions are met. (Sufficient tech levels, sufficient cultural advancements, etc.) When either a certain percentage or a certain flat number of your population have migrated to the 'higher plane' you win. And it uses an already existing feature of the game! Yeesh, how much easier could it be to add a cool idea. But no, no one else seemed to like it.

Like the exact same endgame as Galactic Civilizations. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Maybe Malfador would have to worry about copywrite violations?

I'd like to see a "secret mission" victory condition like in risk. You are given a specific mission to complete at the very beginning of the game.
Example: Prevent PLANET with ancient technology from being colonized. While another player has mission colonize PLANET to ge thte ancient tech.
Or: Kill PLAYER because he is your rival.
Or: Occupy a certain region of the galaxy.
Or: Collect samples of all surviving races in the game.

Sort of like Alpha Centauri http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

'Ascension' type victories have been in a number of strategy games. As long as it isn't a copy, I don't see a problem.

Sounds like a research victory, which already exists...

I never played Alpha Centauri or Galactic Civilizations. <:o
i dunno it's kind of different from a pure-research victory. it requires production and time - it opens up the possibility of opponents having more opportunities to hinder your progress, thus balancing things out a bit. i don't know, it just sounded like a neat way to give another way to win to defensive/peaceful empires.
