I didn't have this problem with the beta, but I did all my beta testing on a desktop. Now that I'm playing with the retail version I've lodaded it on my laptop, which actually has better specs than the desktop. Anyway, when setting up a game I don't seem to have any problem, but when I get to the system view my mouse moves real slow, like it's moving through water. It gets where I'm pointing it, but lags significantly behind my hand movements. It's hard to go do anything precise because I'm always overcompensating and waiting for it to catch up.

I've seen posts on the other forum about this, but no difinetive fix for it. Anyone else having this problem? It's very annoying and makes playing a chore.

I've tried nerfing all the display settings, but that doesn't seem to help.

I think someone mentioned before that disabling SLI on the video card (if it has it) improved this problem? But I'm not sure if I'm just remembering another graphic-type glitch or not.

I have this problem also, but I'm running on a desktop. It's not a bad one, either, since it can run HL2 and Civ4 very well, and Oblivion... moderately... But then it plays SE:V, and gets about 35 fps without any menus up. It drops down to between 10 and 20 fps with menus.

What kind of video card does your laptop have?
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro.

I downloaded the most recent display drivers just to make sure. Didn't help.

It only seems to be a problem in the system display and in combat. In all the menu screens it works just fine. It seems like it's just on screens where there is any motion happening on screen. Is it possible to stop the planets from rotating in the system display?

Yes, but it probably won't help, if the problem occurs in combat too.

Search for rotation in the data folder..not sure which file its in. :/

That is what fixed this problem for me.

I don't see anything about SLI anywhere. Must not have it I guess.

Hrm, well it looks like I could remove the rotation for every planet in the XFileClasses_Stellar.txt file. That seems like a lot of work though. Is there not some global setting somewhere?

As far as I can tell, no.

I haven’t seen a setting that could do that. If it is in an X File I wouldn’t know; haven’t tried them yet. Besides I’m not sure you would need to do all the planets. I noticed that even after adjusting my SLI I am getting slowdowns with storms and a horribly slow painfully delayed lag from asteroid only systems. Maybe if you could just stop those two the problem would be corrected enough to not really notice. Is there a way to replace them with still shots? Geo if you don’t mind how about taking a look and checking when the lag is worse. Are systems with asteroids slowing the mouse more than systems without? Black Holes over Storm only systems, etc…

I noticed that I am only now getting severe lag with asteroid belt systems, compared to 1.13. In 1.13, I was able to look at any system without any noticeable lag, whereas now asteroid systems take me down to 3 fps or so. Nebulas also slow me down now, whereas they did not in 1.13, but not as much as asteroid belts.

If it's an Nvidia card, it's possibly the render frames ahead function. Apply coolbits to unlock all control panel features, then go into advanced 3D settings. There should be a "Max frames to render ahead feature" that has a 3. Reducing that might help.

This is also my greatest complaint on the UI side, and happens all the time (no SLI though, just a humble Geforce2Go getting 3-10 frames/sec). Cursor movement shouldn't be reliant on frame rate though.
