View Full Version : PBW games - so many SEIV versions!

I'm thinking of punging into the PBW universe, but I've noticed that among the games where players are needed there are many versions of SEIV being played.

My question: is SEIV Deluxe version 1.94 compatible with SEIV Deluxe version 1.95 (what I have)? I've also noticed several SEIV version 1.91 games going. I don't suppose any of those would be compatible with Deluxe...

I've noticed a couple of Devnull games going, but none for the version of Devnull I have, which is Devnull Gold. I'm not even sure Devnull Gold is the latest version.

I noticed at least one Dark Nova game, but not for the latest version, which AFAIK is DN4.23.

1.94 and 1.95 are savegame compatible. I think 1.91 savegames can be played in 1.95 as well.

The latest version of Devnull is 1.80: link (http://www.spaceempires.net/home/downloads-details-547-Devnull_Mod_Gold_1.80.html#dldetails).

If you've done things to the stock files, such as added system names added the sound mod, does that screw up PBW games?

I'd like the get involved in PBW, but I wonder if it's possible.

Some files are safe to alter, others are not. In Chapter 1 (http://se4modding.spaceempires.net/ModdingTutorial.html#Chapter1) of SE4 Modding 101, there is a table listing which files are safe to mod. Note that it is safe to replace sound files as well, though not safe to mod the Components.txt file to use differently named files.

Geo recently announced plans to prune any outdated mods that aren't in active use. There's a lengthy list in the thread titled "PBW Housecleaning".

The most up-to-date list of mods that I know of is on the SEWiki (http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Mods_(SEIV)#Mod_Listing). According to that page, DevNullGold is up to v1.80.

DN4.24 was just installed on PBW within the last few days.

Thanks for the info, Cap!

It appears that PBW is more up to date than SENet, where I have been going for my mod information.

Having never played a PBW game before, I visited the PBW site very, very rarely.

Not everyone submits updates to both PBW and SEnet regularly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

The Wiki tends to list the latest version of mods, as anyone can update it.

1.91 is the minimum required to play any 1.9x savegame (eg PBW usage).

To process some mods (eg CB Mod) requires 1.94. 1.95 is simply the steam version of 1.94, AFAIK.

1.95 is not the "steam version;" it has some minor bug fixes.

Version 1.95:
1. Fixed - Mount selection on the Weapons Report was only showing the Normal Mount.
2. Fixed - The game will now create any directories that are missing.
3. Fixed - Occasionally, the TCP/IP would not connect using UDP.
4. Fixed - Over 300 System Types would crash the game.
5. Fixed - The Map Editor was not loading old Settings.txt files (with track numbers).
6. Added - Added a startup menu window.

Dark Nova v4.24 has only been updated on PBW because I just haven't gotten around to it. Most times, I upload it to SE.net shortly after uploading to PBW, but my time just isn't my own lately...
