Hmm. I was thinking Aaron would throw a couple quick fixes to a number of small items in addition in v1.20 - oh well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Hi all. Anyone having a problem after installing patch 1.20. Not able to play the Ballance mod. Started a new e-mail game in standard game and when I went to process as the host got a black screen instead.

30. Added - SE5_Script.pdf to the "Docs" directory. This document details the scripting language used for the AI,
external events, and intelligence projects.

oo. This should help a lot.

I would be happy just to have the standard game to work. Everything was working untill I installed ver 1.20 patch.

Ok, you are playing Standard SEV and not the Balance Mod, right? You won't be able to use the Balance mod until Kwok updates it.

We are playing the standard game. Set the game up and sent out the game file. Did my turn and friend sent his turn back. Now when I atemp to process the turn the screen goes blank. I understand I have to wait for the new mod patch.

Try switching to windowed mode before you run the turn- sometimes that'll let you see where its erroring out..

Alright what has changed that I have to make adjustments for in my TC? I would like to know so I can fix whatever after doing the install.

Until I post v1.01 of the mod, you can just change add this info to line 499 in settings.txt to fix compatibility issues:

Default Empire Option Sort Mounts By Name := FALSE

That would probably be the answer to my question as well! Thanks CPT Kwok!

I have put up a torrent for the patch.

You can load it from SEV v 1.20 Patch (http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/hashtorrent/3579558.torrent/Space_Empires_V_1.20_patch.3579558.TPB.torrent)

11. Added - "Move Item To Top" and "Move Item To Bottom" buttons on the Set Construction Queue window.

Hmmm...are we starting to see some UI improvements here?

I have reinstaled my SEV game. Patched to only ver 1.17 again and everything works. As soon as I install patch 1.20 I cannot process a e-mail game. As soon as I try to process I get a Black screen. Is anyone having this problem or know what is caussing it?

I have reinstalled SEV tree times. If I patch to ver 1.17 all is fine. Once I installed patch ver 1.20 I cannot process e-mail game. Screen turns black when I try to process. Is anyone having this problem or nkow a sulotion?

Seems to have speeded up turn processing quite a bit.

For the next version, can we not have the warp point sound effect that increases proportionately in volume the more ships you move through? I don't want to be deafend when I start moving large fleets around late game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/yawn.gif

Are you using a mod? Someone posted a similer issue over at the SE5universe forum. Maybe that was you. If not maybe they've found an answer over there?

There have been changes in MainString.txt too. Any other modders who have adjusted this file will need to do so again.

Has anyone gotten the temp fix from Kwok to work? the one about adding line 499?

I'm still getting errors about some helptext thing... Lines related to Dlg Scrap and Dlg soemthing else....

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Have they added a way to start a saved game from the command line yet? Like se4.

Phoenix-D
December 19th, 2006, 12:50 AM
java: have you modded your main_strings file?

CaptRR: Yes. Geo uses it for PBW, but the commands aren't common knowledge as far as I know..

no i haven't.. what do I need to put in there???

Thanks Phoenix...

The problem sounds like its with the main_strings file. If you haven't modded it though, the patch should have updated it if needed..

EDIT: duh. Find the Main_strings in the Balance Mod folder and delete it. that should do it.

javaslinger
December 19th, 2006, 01:14 AM
Nope... I don't have a Main_strings file in the Balance mod folder...

However I noticed that the new HelpTxt.txt is 3927 lines as opposed to the 3915 in the one of the Balance MOd... apparently that needs to be updated...

sigh.. I guess I'll have to wait for the good ol' Capn to finish his good works....

javaslinger

Fixed it... Apparently there are about 12 lines that have to be added to the HelpText.txt file as well....

It seems to work now...

Thanks,

Not sure how a help text file got in your Balance Mod folder in the first place. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

javaslinger
December 19th, 2006, 02:08 AM
That and the Main-strings.txt file have erroneously ended up in there on a few occasions.. but I can promise you they only got there when installing your mods as I'm definately not a modder....

Unless the patches put them there somehow...

Maybe he dropped it into SE5 --> Data instead of SE5 --> Game Types

The clear problem/question here is how could a patch modify something in the Data Folder which is in another folder named Balance Mod?

It is good to see this added. I send this request to Aaron after the initial version of SEV was released.

Thanks, Aaron!

The good news is even version 1.17 saves that crashed after strategic will now process in 1.20! The ever annoying fleet splitting bug is still present though. I'm also seeing something I've never seen before. What are the white stars showing up under planets I've splattered? I also have them over one planet that strategic combat indicated I had obliterated, but now shows enemy population, and the game will not let me attack it again. Whatever the white stars are they are they will not let me move ships back over the planet. This becomes a problem when the fleet splitting bug has left ships damaged so bad they can not move over the planets. I can't move a repair ship back to help them.

Phoenix-D

Why'd you stick the screenshot in a doc file?

At any rate, unless I miss my guess that's a minefield icon, and your ships aren't moving onto it because they don't want to die. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Either clear the "ships won't move into minefields" setting or select the hex and clear the marker..

StarJack
December 19th, 2006, 02:28 PM
Well because I couldn't remember what the save screen shot in game commmand was, and it's not in the manual. It's funny that when I first attacked those planets there were minefields, and they went right ahead with the attack and said they'd cleared xx number of mines? There are sweepers present, so why wouldn't they move onto minefields?

StarJack
December 19th, 2006, 02:32 PM
And where might the "ships won't move into minefield" setting that doesn't work on the initial attack reside?

Phoenix-D
December 19th, 2006, 02:41 PM
empire options. If you don't know mines are there- if there are no markers- the ships will always move there.

StarJack
December 19th, 2006, 02:44 PM
OK, so just because I see them in the flag display doesn't mean the ships know that they are there. Thanks! OH, and how do I save a screenshot to disk from the game?

Well, I went and unchecked that box, and the ships now move onto those planets, but no boom, and no mine sweeping? OK, after processing two turns the minefield indicators are gone...

President_Elect_Shang

If I understood CPT Kwok right mines have become uncloaked somehow with this patch. I suspect it may be related to the Active and passive scope attached to the hulls. Besides the mines may have been cloaked before you first attacked but after that your ships know they are there so there should be an icon; but white stars? That crap needs moded out ASAP, anyone know where the setting/bmp for it is?

Ed Kolis
December 19th, 2006, 02:48 PM
Do you have a treaty with the owner of the mines which includes minefield code sharing?

President_Elect_Shang
December 19th, 2006, 02:55 PM
I suspect you blew all the mines away than, but the icon should disappear or you might need to go and unset that area as a mine field. Do we still have that ability in SE5, to mark known minefields? As for the screen shot; the way I do it is to take the shot (Ctrl + Print Screen) then paste it into a pic editing software. I use PhotoStudio 5.5 (the program I did your rank with) but Windows paint works just as well. I suggest saving the photo as something other than a bmp though to conserve size and upload/download time. Speaking of your rank Sergeant comes at 200 so PM me around 190 and I will fix it up.

Hi PES! I took the print the same way, I just slapped it into word without thinking about it really. Many games have the ability to save a screenshot as a jpg to the game directory and I couldn't remember if SEIV or V allowed this. Would be nice if it did! Thanks for the avatar help!!

Ed, no this is a neutral that finally threw his sucker in the dirt and declared war on me... took him long enough <lol>.
This is from an old save from 1.17, not even playing really, just BS'ing around to learn the game and check for bugs. Looks like Aaron addressed quite a few issues with this patch, although that fleet splitting bug still irritates the bejeepers out of me, at least I can rejoin them now.

Is this only happening in you saved game, or have you tried a brand new 1.20 game?

There is a problem with minefield marking. When your ships successfully SWEEP the mines, the sector should NOT be marked as a minefield -- you just cleared it! This is a mistake. We should request that MM change this so that only when all ships are destroyed with an unknown number of mines remaining should that automatic flagging be triggered.

Perhaps he just did a cut and paste out of his diary entry for the day.

Re: the minefields. I belive what has been encountered are the GHOSTS of minefields. Initially the ships wouldn't enter because they were afraid. Logical.

Becoming ticked off with Steam - still no patch up there yet. I suspect it hasn't sold very well on Steam judging by the absolute death of the forum there. One post since November - complaining about the lack of the 1.20 patch.

Tough crowd! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Close to what PES said. I use it a lot with work and it's always a quick click away, didn't even think about it until someone mentioned it.

Kana, this was in a 1.17, but I have confirmed it leaves the stars behind in 2.0 as well even tho the minefield was used up damaging my ships.
