View Full Version : Has any one else noticed a link between the AI Research file and its AI State?

Just been doing some further play testing on my latest mod and noticed that the AI's are beginning new games in "Secure Holdings after Attack/Incursion" state.
When I change their research file so that I start with Propulsion rather than Missiles as the first item in the queue, they start the game in "Exploration" state instead.
What gives???? Anyone else spotted this oddity?

I have not seen this yet as I just started testing my cylon mod. I will watch for this.
Thanks For the heads up.

Does anyone know when/what causes the different states go into effect and if there is a minimum number of turns they must be in effect?

Ship Construction as the starting tech seems to be ok - ie AI seems to start the game in Exploration state.

Looks like I'd better issue an update for my mods...

Humm.. are you absolutely certain of this? I could not reproduce it. I tested this with several different techs (including missile weapons) and the AI was always on Exploration state until it made first contact...

I wonder if any one would care to post what the AI starts with if you change its starting research from one thing to another.

IE, Engines first = Exploration
Missles first = Hold Incursion
etc.

HreDaak,
Am absolutely certain of the observation. Four races (Klingon, Romulan, Borg and Shadows) each with missiles as their first research item started of in Incursion state (reviewed builds after 6 and 10 turns).
When switched to Propulsion or Ship Construction as their first research item, they defaulted to Exploration state (again reviewed builds after 6 and 10 turns).

therefore, have no doubt what-so-ever. If you find it difficult to reproduce with other races, there must be some subtle interaction going.

At the end of the day, we may not find out the answer, but, this sort of thing shows you need to keep your wits about you when modding, to ensure that your AI do as you expect...

PS: Have you tested my observation on my Romulans, Klingons, Shadows or Borg?
