Check this game out - it's basically a space combat sim modelled after Critical Mass (God how I loved that game!) only much more advanced, and it's free, moddable, and multiplayer too! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif If you're not familiar with Critical Mass, it's vaguely similar to Space Empires V tactical combat with autopause turned on - you issue movement orders to your ships, tell them what weapons to fire at what point during your turn, etc. and when you're done with your turn (actually unlike Critical Mass and SE5 there's a 90 second limit per turn but I suppose that might be moddable) your ships and the enemy ships move and fire as planned...
I might be tempted to make a Space Empires mod for this game, so you can fly Xiati Cruisers and fire Quantum Torpedoes at the enemy Norak Dreadnoughts with their Phased Shields! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Problem with the modding is it's mainly done through a GUI (like SE3's), which I haven't quite figured out yet - I've been spoiled by SE4's text files http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

The screenshots were rather confusing.

Yeah, the game is a bit intimidating... I'm thinking maybe I should write my own Critical Mass clone which is not quite so complex, but then what about the roguelike? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Interesting..played one game, but the way ships change sizes when hit is rather odd. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
