Any one care to share their Desk Top?

A screen cap of mine is attached.

Well I'm not enough into self expression that I see any need to bother looking at the same image every time I look at the screen. I just use the green hills with blue sky screen because it's the one that's been there since the start.

However in the spirit of things I will attach an image that I have always been tempted to use, except that as I said I don't care enough to go to the effort. I tried using it as the desktop but I have so many icons it gets covered up.

Nevermind. The attachment wasn't showing.

ah, Lord Soth. Nice.

I like to change mine every few weeks. I find that having something new to look at every so often lifts me up.

Lord Soth! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif
Are you into DL?

Oh, and here is mine.

I like DragonLance quite a bit, and Lord Soth is my absolute favorite.

I change my desktop periodically, to suit my current thoughts and mood. Lodr Soth does tend to be a recurring view though....

Randallw

It's not just the picture but a view of what's on people computer that is interesting. Do you have savings bonds shang?

President_Elect_Shang
January 3rd, 2007, 11:09 PM
I agree Lord Soth is great but I have always preferred Rastlin. I enjoy the Mage class most of all and like the way DL does the robes. I refuse to play or even acknowledge anything from the 5th age. The idea of Takhisis being able to steal the world away from Paladine and Gilean much less the High God goes against everything DL means to me.

Yes savings bonds are just one of the investments the wife and I have made over the years. Now doesn't that make you wnder what icons I removed first? If you look close you will notice the trash bin has items in it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

I'm feeling plain. My desktop is pure Black, with the bare minimum of Icons because I rarely sit and look at it anyway. It's not attached because I doubt anyone wants to look at a Blank Screen.

The 'Print Screen' key.

Spectarofdeath
January 4th, 2007, 01:46 AM
Yeah, I used that, it didnt do anything. Or if it did I have no clue where it put the pic, I checked all my pics on the PC using the search feature and didnt find it. Oh well. I need to change my desktop anyway, had that one for several weeks now.

Zip file attached:

At home I tend to use pictures of my pet rabbit, Snuff.

On my work PC I use all kinds of crap, but at the moment I am cycling through pieces from www.banksy.co.uk (http://www.banksy.co.uk)

Also in the attached zip is a picture I took on my phone of Old Harry Rocks near my home, that I have been thinking about putting on my home PC.

I just use the "Circles" wallpaper that comes with Windows. I rarely find any images I like enough to use as wallpaper. I once had a pretty cool picture of a dragon, but using it as wallpaper seemed to make my computer less stable.

That's quite common. If you're going to use a backdrop picture of something heavy, like a dragon, it's always a good idea to make sure the heavy item is central on the screen. If it is to one side, you should at least make sure there is something of approximately equal weight on the other side of the picture to balance it out.

That should fix most instability problems http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Who here is:

1. Using Linux?
2. Have you used Windows? If so why did you switch?
3. How much did it cost?
4. Can your PC talk to a Windows PC on the same network?

I ask because I have been wondering about switching my OS and I have other computers sharing the same network; the kids computers, but I need to stay connected to them. So far I have been with MS since the days of MS-DOS 3.something-er-other. Anyway I figure if I don't change soon I might as well give up. Funny how things work out. In the Army computers were part of my job. Now days I am not sure what is what and which is best. You probably don't even want to know the specs of this computer! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Tim_Ward

If you intend to use your computer to game, then you're going to need a duel boot OS anyway, because trying to get games to run under Linux with Wine or whatever is an exercise in machoism.

If that's the case, you have to ask yourself what you can do with Linux that you can't do with Windows to justify the Linux learning curve.

Ah I see your point. In that case it may be best if I resign myself to the clutches of Bill. To paraphrase Mr. Conehead it appears he has me by the base of my snargales!

1. Not presently, but I have for months at a time before switching back to Windows.
2. Yes, I am right now. I tried Linux because I was just getting sick of Windows and wanted to try the new rage http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
3. Nothing - I used free distros such as Ubuntu.
4. Yes, it just takes a bit of configuration of SAMBA.

1680 X 1050. It's a wide screen laptop and yes it is an unusual resolution. Great for viewing DVD's - very close to the 16x9 / 1080i type stuff.

1. Lots of people. This forum is full of computer geeks and linux geeks are no exception.
2. Yes. Lots of reasons, but mostly political in nature (licensing and corporate practices). For the most part if the app is popular in *nix it has been ported to windows in some form or the other. I recently setup a second box with windows on it for se5 so we probably shouldn't say I switched to linux I just use it on my main computer.
3. It costs time. How much time you spend depends on what your doing. Linux can be as easy to install and use as windows if your using it for email, word processing and what not (see Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com)). But gaming is a pain in the butt. Some games get ported to linux (like Dominions (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/Dom3/1.htm)) others will run in wine/cedega (like se4) and yet other don't run at all (like se5).
4. Yes most distributions install samba by default. It runs in the background and helps with windows networks.

I can't play SE:V at work, since the game takes over the desktop and it is problematic to switch from it to the desktop... especially in the middle of the turns.

I have SE:V on my work laptop at home. =) As you can see from the screenshot attached. =)

My job has some nice perks.
