Has any one else noticed lately that Fire Fox has been excessively crashing?
I am running v1.5.0.9 and lately, since the last update, I have noticed that FF seems to be crashing for more frequently than with previous versions.
I am considering installing FF 2.0 - any feed back on this one?

I haven't had it crash very often. On the contrary, every time I open internet exploder it crashes when I try to close it. Very confusing.

Well I have noticed that it is crashing alot on sites that are now switching over to use features that the new InternetExploder 7 uses. Sites like Myspace, youtube, and so on.

I had some crashing issues when I had a lot of addons installed that conflicted. Try dumping them all, upgrading to 2.0 and adding them back a few at a time.

I get frequent crashes with firefox - usually javascript or flash errors. Good thing about 2.0 is that it restores your tabs when you reload - including filled-in text boxes.

It was possible to get tab session restoration with several extensions pre-2.0. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif They really need to make more extension features standard...

Yeah, a new profile is usually a good step. You can copy the bookmarks.html file over to get all of your bookmarks resetup instantly. I would suggest you extract the bookmarks.html file from your profile folder, move the profile to a backup location, then delete all firefox files and install a clean FF 2. You can manually paste the bookmarks.html file into your new profile folder without issue (probably want to close FF 2 first).

Perhaps you should drop by on IRC (http://www.spaceempires.net/home/irc.html). Much better for boredom than random clog posts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Now what about a good capture and player for crap on the web like swf files?

I am using FireFox 2.0 on three different PCs and haven't had a single crash on any of them. The only issue I had was the "Unable to create ActiveX control {0000-0000-0000....etc)" error, which I searched the net about and was able to remove by downloading an updated FireFox DLL. Now all is well.

If you want to save swf files to your hdd, you can go into Options > Content and click the Manage button next to file types. Find swf and change the action taken by the browser. You can play swf files in various video apps, such as Media Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/).

There are a ton of video download add ons for Firefox, and I came across this story at Digg.com :

The crashing issue was getting out of hand so I followed the good advice here and installed FF2.0 It transferred all of my extensions, bookmarks, and profile automatically.

Are there any built in plug-ins for 2.0? I noticed that when I check the status of my addons that AdblockPlus and related have the option to uninstall/disable.
Do I still need these plug ins?
Adblock Plus
Crash Recovery
Adblock Fliterset.G
NoScript

What is crash recovery? Note that FF 2.0 has tab session restoration as a default feature.
Adblock is still quite useful.

Thank you Fyron. WOW... it comes with spell checker too. Right now your name has a red underscore. LOL. This is sweet!

The spell checker is great; however, I added a misspelled word and can't figure out how to get it out of the dictionary.

1.) My Computer
2.) Tools menu
3.) Folder Options
4.) View
5.) Hidden files and folders
6.) Show hidden files and folders
7.) C:\Documents and Settings\You\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\You
8.) Open "persdict.dat" with Notepad
9.) Remove the misspelled words
10.) Save

My God Fyron, what would we do with out you. I mean that, when I think about all the help you have provided in and out of the community with both the game and other things, I am very thankful. No *** kissing, just sincere gratitude for all your help over the years will all things.

Cool thanks Fyron misspelling corrected. I may not be a computer "guru"; however, I at least know enough that step 6 is the default for me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

You might have to resort to Google. I just copy/pasted that from some other forum. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

It's not the source of the information Fyron. I think what At is trying to say is that it is the person who put forth the effort that makes the difference and deserves the praise.
