I went to Best By Friday to but SE5, they were sold out and when I asked the clerk when they were getting more he looked it up and said "Its been discontinued?. SO.. Then I went to GameStop, They had 1 copy left which I purchased. Then I asked the clerk when are you getting more, He also looked it up and said they were not getting anymore.....
So what happened? The game hasnn't been out all that long, is it really being discontinued already ???

I would go back and tell that Clerk that he is wrong, the game hasn't been discontinued... or has it?

Sounds like it's being taken out of distribution but not print. You will probably have to buy it on-line form now on.
DISCLAIMER: The above is pure speculation based on very limited unconfirmed info. In other words don't shot me, I'm just taking a best guess here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

Damn it! I don't have my copy yet, and I am NOT buying it via Steam. I want a boxed version. Maybe there will happen to be a copy on ebay the exact time I can afford to get it...

Microcenter and StrategyFirst still have box sets available for order online. I got my copy retail at Microcenter late last month, and I haven't been back since, so I can't say if this is some sort of trend.

I did a check of the Best Buy website and it's still available for order. I think the clerks he talked to said it was discontinued as in discontinued from the shelf. I don't think their terminals can tell them the difference between discontinued from the shelf and discontinued from print. See what I mean?

My Local EB Games told me the same thing when I noticed all of their SE5 copies were gone from last week and asked when they would be getting more.

I suspect that the game didn't sell well enough at stores for them to keep it on the self. This doesn't mean that the game has been discontinued just that the profit vs. self space is low. The Best Buy in my area had 5 copies 3 weeks ago and they still have one left.

I would chalk it more to the fact that stores like EB games are heavily focused towards the console market and only the biggest PC titles have any significant shelf life.

Here in Sydney, Australia I saw a copy of Space Empires 4 on the shelf two days ago.

The Best Buy in my area has the same amount of self space dedicated to pc games as any one console. I have more PC games than the EB in my area, which is sad.
Dodd, How long has the game been on the self? The Best Buy I go to has had the same poor selling game on the self for months and since they refuse to bargin bin anything it'll sit there for months to come.

Unsure, but I think it was going for about 30$ Australian. It was at the local EB in my area.
