Just curious...
Has anyone tried modifying the random events? I don't know what I'm doing...but was feeling an itch to mess around with them a little.

Is there really a point to bumping a thread that's only 8 hours old? It was still on the first page...
Shleepy:
It is much the same as modding the AI, using the same scripting language (though different functions). Any of the threads on AI modding might, in a roundabout way, shed light on event and intel scripting too. What specifically are you having trouble with?

I've not looked into that part of the files yet, but is it actually possible to mod in for instance a 'space monster' or 'pirates' event that spawns a pre-designed ship/fleet ?
That would be completely neat.
I'd also like to see some sort of Master of Orion 2 type events ala 'Galactic News'.

Yes there was. He posted it in the wrong section and when I moved it for him to here it was pushed way down on the page. Thus I bumped it to get his question answered. Now considering that in all my years I have only bumped five or six times you shouldn't question that I have a valid reason for bumping again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

A random event I would like to see is the thing from the civilization series that pops up every now and then and tells you whos what rank in what ranking, like "Federation is #1 in Technology Klingons are #2" I think any and all strategy games should have this.

I have not had a random event in SE5 so I do not know how they work. Can you make decisions in them, like with King of Dragon Pass and Galactic Civilizations? Or is it just a screen with a description?

A screen telling you what has happened or is about to happen. Only information is displayed, no decision process is going on.

Spectator:
SE does one order better; you can simply enable score displays for all empires when you start the game. Then, whenever you want, you can see who is in first place.

Chances are by turn 100 your going to be so far ahead of the AI that checking your score will become pointless.

AMEN!!! Yes, I know but still, I always turn the score checking thing off, I dont want to know how far behind they are, I just want to know who's in what place, AFAIK it gives a breakdown of the scores.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned MoO2's 'Galactic News'. It basically came with a report every 15-20 turns about who had the strongest military might or technology, etc. And then, when for instance a space monster spawned, that too would appear in the news.

No particular problems...I've barely even done more than think about it. I was just curious to see if someone else had already done this sort of thing to avoid reinventing the wheel. I have so many "real life" issues to deal with right now that playing games is somewhat low on my to do list...so mostly i'm just jotting down ideas for later. It also doesn't help that I come across a new idea to consider every time I visit these SE message boards...just can't keep up! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I will make sure to re-read the modding forum before getting too involved (that's where most of the real juicy meats are anywayz...hehe). Thanks.
