As per the stated victory conditions, Tifone won the game on the basis of making the funniest posts in the game thread. It's well worth a read, as there's a good load of quality material in there.

I got the military victory as Machaka.

You guys are pitching curve balls here.

Joker was a cool game & thread, but i'm loathe to further muddy the already turgid waters of the hall with a comedy writing victory. Is it ok with you guys if i list the military winner?

A six player all-age game? What the heck? Should i start a new section for all-age, or what? What do people think?

Zeldor

I think you should. They got really popular recently. Maybe a list of draws too? Quite a lot of games are ending in draws too :P [assuming that we want to make it more of an archive too]. Got my 2 LA TC games end in a draw because people were not really interested in getting into late game madness.

I think you should make a section for all-age games too.
I'm in one that's about to end soon, and I think there are at least two more all-age games active besides the one I'm in.

One of the reasons I mentioned the military victory (besides pride :) ) was that I suspected the HoF would prefer to list the military victories.

It'd be nice if there was a section for honorable mentions or something, though. That way oddball cases could get the fame they deserve.

The game was no diplomacy & played on a extremely large map where over 90% of map was wasteland, so it's not a regular game by any measure, but I guess it counts for a honorable mention or something. And just to shock you guys, here's my winning pretender design:

Awake F3A4W3E4D3N4B2 Ghost King with turmoil 3, sloth 3, heat 3, death 3, luck 3, magic 3. Here is the kicker. I got dominion strenght 3.

How on earth did you win with that!!!

Here are some details:

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=692610&postcount=140

And the map was *really* huge. about 40 provinces per player. Domkill was a non-issue. And with 95% of map being wasteland, there really wasn't much point in conventional troop armies.

Dueling incredible starts by Mictlan and Sauromatia. The single fastest gem production I have ever seen in any game. (Sauromatia). He added more than 2.5 gems / turn over something like 50 turns! Unfortunately Jim was unable to give the attention the game required and his play suffered later in the game. Ultimately the position was picked up (thanks Shard!).

Late game featured 999 slave Astral Corruption (I think). As well as Looming hells and Dream Corruption. (Was very impressive Scarlioni!)

Originally conceived as a RPG heavy game with players documenting their stories, this game never quite achieved its promise as there were a steady stream of players falling off to either subs / AI. I must say this is a very hard game, in late game I had to use 6+ hours for each turn to deal with the micromanagement. The Dance of Morrigans was way too awesome against pangaea, once they bulit an army and threatened my capital, even at the end of the game I was still feeling difficulty to destory them in an open field and had to rely on my resource advantage/freespawn to fend off the intrusion.

Notes - A game that was slightly marred by several stalers and/or bailers in the early stage, and a good mid-sized nation being allowed to stale-to-death in the mid-game until a sub was found (around 10 consecutive stales IIRC). All nations were active and fighting for the last 20+ turns though, which went some way towards rescuing the credibility of the game.

I have attached the last turn file. (more info and turns available on the game thread, or by PM request)

This game is disputed by me as a legitimate victory as, when confronted with an equal opponent, instead of fighting for supremacy as would be right, he had his friends explicitly throw the game. Easily defensible VP's were abandoned to wraithlord's small force; Aristander, in fact, along with Wraithlord, even cast crumble on his own Capital in order to make the walls tumble and the previously evacuated VP fall. Thus, the "win" proves nothing, other than the extent to which some players will go in order to advance their HoF. How does this action merit displacing Calmon in the standings?

One needs to ask what the point of a a Roll of Honour is - is it to commend outstanding play? is it to determine the relative propensity of a nation to win? Neither of these are met by Wraithlord's low actions.

It certainly was technically a victory, as the game threw up the message.

Wraithlord was in full collusion in having the game thrown, which has not been denied. There are good reasons why such actions are considered illegitimate in all competitive endeavours; although it is also clear that there is a broad diplomatic grey area in Dominions.

In the many years I have played Dominions, I have never seen the like. Is this unprecedented amongst the games included in this thread? If anyone is aware of this situation previously occuring, I would much appreciate a link to the game thread.

In some places repeating the same msg over and over is considered spamming.

I think you posting in every thread I posted at today is borderline harassment. There's taking your loss badly and there's what you're doing which is being vengeful and spiteful.

Any forum moderators that may see please consider whether or not this is proper conduct. This place should be friendly, polite and civil. Please help make sure it stays that way.

It is important that certain information be made public. I understand how you may be ashamed of what was done, but that is not a sufficient reason for the free speech in the community to be curtailed. Please restrain yourself to countering the facts, or providing argument. I know I will.

Ballbarian

archaeolept,

Guess what. There is a note in the board rules on free speech and I quote:

What? Free Speech!
And finally if your response is: I have a right to free speech! What right do you have to delete/edit/move/etc my messages? Yes, you may have a right to free speech, but not here. When you signed up for the Shrapnel Communitys message boards, you voluntarily gave up the right to certain kinds of speech in return for the ability to use the boards. Shrapnel Games is a private business, and if you'd actually read the Bill of Rights, you'll see that "Freedom of Speech" applies to the government, not here.

As a user in another thread put it best I will quote him as well:

You guys are both key figures in the community - it would be nice to smooth this out and move on.

Please let this be the end of it so I don't have to use my anti-free-speech powers of doom. :)

Thanks!

WraithLord
September 16th, 2009, 02:17 PM
I am not at all ashamed :)
I worked hard in order to win this game.
Last turns each took > 7 hours to do. I covered all the angles and you didn't stand a chance to win. I am willing to share my turn files with anyone who wants to verify that. I have had no nefarious cabal with any player to win the game, nor have I persuaded, threatened, mind controlled or did in any other way influenced my allies actions. I gave a fair warning before attacking his VPs. Yes, my ally went ahead and helped me of his own volition, so what?- I don't condemn him for this, quite the opposite, had I been in a similar situation: hating nation A enough and wanting to help nation B enough then I'd probably find a way to help . Be it by sending all my gems, or items, or armies or whatever I can to make sure I influence the end result.

[removed last bit, thank you Ballbarian for putting an end to this. I can delete this whole response as well if required.]

yes, sorry Balbarian, I did not mean to imply that free speech in this community existed w/out restrictions. I will endeavour to ensure that all further discussion on this issue sticks to facts, reasoned supposition, and polite argument; invective and the like is to be fully avoided.

As a public service, and to hopefully make Tyrant's job a bit easier if/when he returns, I've put all the winning nations and their players since his last update into this one post.

Nation wins since last update:
Nehekara- DonCorazon/MA R'lyeh- Executor (tie)
Bogarus-Micah
EA Pan- BesucherXia
MA Ermor- PsiSoldier
MA Van- Kuritza
LA Ermor- Calahan
Lanka- Falkor
*Jotunheim- WraithLord
MA R'lyeh- Raiel
MA Mictlan- alhorro
MA Pythium- Toran
MA Oceania- Squirrelloid
MA Ulm- Ossa
MA Atlantis- Zeldor
Yomi- Calahan
Kailasa- Hadrian_II
*Shinuyama- Shard
Utgard- Frozen Lama
EA Arco- binarysolo/EA Atlantis- AlgaeNymph (tie)
Itza- DrPraetorious
LA Ulm- Fantomen
Midgard- Micah/LA TC- Johnarryn (team game)
MA Mictlan- Isokron

HoF changes-
Micah- 8/114
WraithLord- 6/78*
Executor 4.5/52
DonCorazon 3.5/34
Zeldor 3.5/89

Anything marked with an * is disputed. I have no intention of arguing about it, since that is ultimately Tyrant's call. In the case of the tie game between Executor and DC, I have simply added half of the total players in the game to their "opponents defeated" count, and given them each half the win.

Isokron won Early Days. I don't think he reported it either.

You might want to use the format that Tyrant specified if you want those wins to count.

Uh... the Doomsday thread seems to have nominated Abysia as the winner Juffos..., notably not played by you.

Considering World in Crisis ended in 'just end the game already' rather than concessions, I'm not sure *I* would count that as a victory if it were me.

I'm pretty sure WiC was a victory for Agartha+the other nation. They had most of the (depopulated) map. Nief was a sad shell of a small abandoned nation that nobody really bothered attacking, except for a minor invasion by Sauromatia at the end. Lanka, the only other surviving nation, posted that victory was out of his reach.

Good point. I think it should be considered for someone else to create a new thread for this and continue the HoF legacy.

But who could rise to take such a task?

*Cough*

Not it!

WraithLord
March 10th, 2010, 05:49 AM
GL Ironhawk :)

As it happens I've volunteered for the task. I talked about it last week with the higher powers that reign over these threads. AFAIK said powers were waiting for a response from Tyrant before deciding the matter.

I've even gave it some thought and am considering options for improving the mgmt of the HoF. First thing that pops to mind is creating a DB and a corresponding program to generate reports.

I'd be lying if I were to say I ain't intimated by the task, but since Tyrant is gone for so long I feel like this is a service the community really needs, so I volunteer; but if someone really wants the task I won't be all too upset ;)
