Questions about Espionage

My News Report tells me that "a technology report" has been stolen from me. Does this mean that an enemy is now aware of the technologies I have researched, or does it mean that the enemy has taken my technologies and made them into their own?
Does anyone use espionage/sabotage actively in their games? To me it seems almost like all those facilities would be better used towards Research Centers? Does it work well in your strategies?

I am serious. It is a good question. The report needs to be more clear as to what the AI has actually done. Have they taken the tech, or are they just aware of the fact that you have the tech. It is a good question.

I believe it means they are aware of a tech level or more that you are at. When you encounter a species (AI or human) it only gives you a guess of their tech until observed or stolen. In this case yours was stolen. On the other hand I think all intel is crap. SJ (IIRC) has the perfect pic to sum up my opinion of intel.

Now how do I cue SJ to drop the pic in here for me?

Technology reports are not the same as stealing specific techs. If they do steal a specific technology, you'll get a message concerning which one was stolen. At least that's what I can see from the Intelligence Text files.


Intel Message 48 Title := Technology Stolen
Intel Message 48 Text := Spies have stolen the technology of [%TechName%] from us, sire.
Intel Message 68 Title := Reports Stolen
Intel Message 68 Text := Technology reports have been stolen by enemy nations, sire.

That's right Raapys. They don't have the tech you have; that they stole that is. They now know what tech you are at in whatever area was randomly stolen.
