Screenshots of new shield hit effects. I like the third one best.

The first one with the square. Can you make the squares larger?

Unfortunately, the shield effects are locked to the target model size.

I like the 1st and 3rd, but if forced to choose I will go with the 3rd.

I agree that the first and third are the ones to go with. However, I have to pick the first hands down. Not to say the second one isn't good! It's just not gripping; you know what I am saying?

I'd say round off the edges on the first one and make it fade outwards.

Or better yet make it faceted; like the faces of a gem and fade as you move outward.

Of those 3, I'd choose the second one, by far. It appears more "natural" than the spiky third one or the way too square first one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Third: Ugh.
Second: Realistic, but needs a better glow fade.
First: Looks neat and futuristic.
Going with first until two has a better glow effect.

I agree with Renegade 13 that the second one looks the best. The first one is too square and it looks like there's a square object attached to the end of the beam, in my opinion it doesn't really look like shields. The third one is good for electrical attacks like lightning rays and electric discharges but seems too fuzzy for other attacks.

I'd have to go with the second one. It has a much more "natural effect" llok to it.

Second or third.

2nd seems the best to me. Squares just don't look right in the 1st and 3rd is ok

I like the second one. The first one might look nifty on a Borg cube, and the third one I think suits organic ships better.

I would go with the 2nd one.

This new one looks the best! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

It looks good where the bottom right ship aligns with the shield effect. However, at the upper left it just looks funky. Like it is cutting into the ship or something of that nature.

I agree that the newer one looks better than the first three. You might want to make the 'flare' effect a bit larger, though. Large enough that you can start to see a spheric curve to it. We expect shields to be a sphere around the ship. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I don't know, it looks nice, but it struck me as kinda bland.

If it's going to be seen alot, it should be somewhat simple. If it's possible to make different effects for different shield types or weapons, then you could save the really fancy ones for rare and unusual stuff.
The other thing is that we can't see them in action. Where effects are involved, a large part of it is in how it looks in real-time.
