Hi all.
My first post here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I got bored with the old red GUI so I made a new one, nothing special. It changes the color to blue&grey, the background at map screen to black and the background at in-game menu to a dark forest. Don't forget to backup the old files.

Here some screens:

This new look is really sweet. The darker colours works well ingame and the appearance is more slick and stylish.

Thanks for sharing!

Yep, I like it. I'd already modded the gui but your effort looks better.

I'll stick this on the modlist.

Note - for us Mac OSX folks, the installation instructions should be modified to include:

Open the Dominions 3 application folder.
Select the Dominions3 game application.
Under "Get Info", choose "Show Package Contents".
Copy the resources to the folder Contents>Resources.

Looks nice. If only you could find an appropriate background animation to fit with it (trees.r3f, I think).

I love it!

I know that the devs are in cold-country and might have preferences on their screen savers showing desert scenes. But I get tired of that.

Id love a temperate forest scrolling scene in back o fthe menu. Id even turn the menu off (go to tools, random map creator, then hit space bar) and leave it running if it wasnt what I consider so bland.

I tried to change the animation after Psientist post. The desert background animation is in the "battlemaps" folder (city.d3m). I replaced it with another battle map and was able to change the ground, but the sky and the far fog are still desert like. The sky can be replaced changing "dustsky1.tga" but it would probably change the skies in the whole game. Maybe the other part of the data for the background animation is in "trees.r3f", as Psientist said. Is there a way to open it?

I couldn't find any utilities for .r3f files doing a quick web search, at least for OSX apps. I'm not sure exactly what format that is.

Any interest in doing some unit graphics Flecha? I know there's a lot of call for that around here - for example in the doctor's new nation Padmassa (still in alpha and lacking graphics).

I feel honored, but I donīt think I am good enough. I know how to do some effects in photoshop, but not much more than this. To do this GUI I just needed to use "replace color" two times per image.
But if you have something simple to do, maybe I can help.

I found this browsing old threads, and liked the style overall, but found the blue a bit light for my taste. So, I did a quick tweak of the images, making them darker, and thought I would post the darkened version here in case anyone else was interested.

The author has not been on the forums since 2007, so I figured I'd just post it as an attachment on his thread.

Preview below.

Whaa? Not dark enough? If anything, the original version could use a bit of lightening, since it tends to be rather dark, actually. I've used the blue GUI mod ever since it came out.

Ah but Edi, consider how light some laptop screens are compared with the darkness of older monitors. This is why some mods have very light or dark looking units too - they look fine on the screen used to make them.

Hmm, yes, that is a factor. I've had the blue GUI on two different LCD monitors and it's been rather dark on both of them. I don't have a laptop, so it may well be selection bias in my case.

Interesting. I'm using a desktop LCD at default settings, and the default version shows up as moderate. It's not excessively bright in itself, but I found that the game graphics and icons don't show up so well against it, to my eye, in, say, the unit stats screen.

I've attached an in-game screenshot, though it may not be very helpful, given the monitor differences. For the record, the bottom-most section appears almost black, but not quite, on my monitor.

I don't remenber this unit when playing Lanka, it is from a mod ?

Definitely.

It's a custom unit I made at the request of my son. He, eh, likes rabbits.

So do I!

I have two house rabbits. I was considering doing a rabbit samurai for Jomon Broken.

Talk of Samurai Rabbits = Queue for awesome gaming nostalgia memory

Well, then! I figured there'd be no interest, but since there is, I've put it up as a little mini-mod.
