View Full Version : New mod coming eventually: Unusual things

If anyone wants to see a mod with abnormal, unusual, or obscure things, I am making one now. This will be my first public mod, and will include the following:
-Soldiers who use some sort of magical/special attack
-Seduction units
-Elephants and centaurs
-Many custom summons
-Planar units, eight in total
-At least one gem generating unit (as a hero or summon)
-Some mature but no worse than PG-13 content (within the context of the game)
-New pretenders
-NO custom graphics due to my lack of a sufficient program (this may change in the future.)
-New nation: Late age, diverse, an empire of some sort.
If anyone wants to suggest anything at all, let me know. Any advice would be greatly appreicated. Don't expect this to be a well-balanced or elegent kind of mod; that isn't my goal in this mod.

Dominions doesnt use fancy graphics. Usually the program you got with the computer is sufficient. Not great, but sufficient. And there are various free ones. What operating system do you have?

Doesn't dominions already have mature content? This is a game where you blodily sacrifice virgins to summon a naked demon-woman who sleeps with enemy commanders to make them join your side!

Ok, fine. There is mature content. Yes, I know this is a game with topless women, vampires, undead, human sacrifice, etc. And yes, there will be topless women in my mod; there will also be at least one unit which exemplifies each of the seven deadly sins. To compensate for this, my second mod will be the opposite, with seven virtuous units.
A tentative list of the seven bad units (not created yet) would include:
-A major seduction unit of some sort (Lust, if it wasn't obvious.)
-A berserker unit (Wrath, and I was amazed that the game doesn't have a unit named "berserker.")
-A stuck-up princess/queen/empress unit (Envy)
-An immobile unit who generates gems (Sloth)
-A summonable unit (prince, king, emperor) with great power (Pride)
-A power-hungry unit (Greed.)
-A unit that eats much, much more than it has to (Gluttony; they even have a "gluttony" ability in the game, but I can't directly mod it in at present, so I will have to copy the stats of another gluttony unit.)
I will include many more than these seven, as well as change some pre-existing units.
P.S. I have a windows xp.

greed should be smmonable but have some ungodly high gold cost, so that his upkeep is insane.

Good idea. Note that the units won't actually be called by those names, but it should be obvious what each one is when you see it. How does 200 gold for a single unit sound?

Here's one of the units ("Lust")
She will be summonable for a high, high price, or can be wished for. I still need to add a good description.

commanders cost around 200. the most expensive commanders (like nifel giants) cost 500. give him a cost of 1000 or more.

P.S. this thread should get moved to the mod forum.

Gluttony is negative supply bonus, so you can mod it in. Envy could be a spy or a stealthy unit causing unrest, and Blood Vengeance might work, but those are just suggestions. I like your other ideas.
I agree that this should be in the mod forum.

I think that the Vanheim 'Einhere' unit is the 'traditional' berserker.

I meant 200 gold per turn upkeep. And it will be a one of a kind unit, not one that can be regularly recruited.

That cant be done yet. Only if you make the unit a hero.

Can't I make it summonable? Or maybe (until they change it) a pretender?
Sombre

Or a start unit. That can be one of a kind.
You can't mod unique summons, as far as I know.

About this, if your going to do this, you probably want some indication in the mod description or change the description for wish to indicate this you can summon "Lust" with a wish.
And of course there 'are' some unique summons that only summon once or 3 times or so, but as far as i know you can't mod that in yet so making this unit a Hero is probably your best bet, either that or make them just obscenely expensive so they can only recruit up to 1-3 of this unit otherwise it will have a dangerously high effect on your income.

you can by copystating a unique creature and then adjusting everything else.
in my erinya mod, the wished erinyas are infact unique.
Juzza

Well then if you copystat a unique creature then just have a normal summon spell for it, that might work?
Wish
March 17th, 2007, 10:11 PM
yeah, you'd summon something unique. It would be like summoning the king of banefires or the like.

Copystats has drawbacks though.

You can't use #clear, so you have to select a unique creature that doesn't have any abilities you wouldn't want your new unit to have. Demon Lords have their own quirks, elemental royalty have resistances and some special abilities (creature summoning, storm power, fire shield etc), erinyas are all female, etc.

Ahh, but couldn't you set like negative effects on some of them say for instance, #fireres -100 for a Demon Lord who is immune to fire, or can you not do that?
Edi
March 18th, 2007, 10:10 AM
Yes, you can. If you modify a stat the unit already has, the new value will be used.
So you would put #fireres 0 and the fire immunity would vanish. Can't do anything about things like intrinsic storm power that e.g. the Air Queens have.

One Demon Lord is a flaming sun who causes Heat from Hell effect on the battlefield, one generates blood slaves and high-morale militia, one kills population with frightening speed and one can (try to) dominate any commander to join you somewhat like succubi.
If heat, chill and poison auras can be negated (arch devils, ice devils), you can copy a suitable one of them and use #clearmagic to have a demon with just better-than-average stats. As an example, one Ice Devil's special ability is to have great leadership (moddable), another's to have holy magic (all demons with holy magic can reanimate undead).
Another unique demon, and one that can be very easily copied, would be any one of Tlaloques of Mictlan (1484 through 1487). They are demons who have magic and don't need to eat. You can still mod them to have Gluttony even though they don't have to eat.
Treelords, once their magic, poison resistance and fire vulnerability are modded away, are also pretty plain with just forest survival.

the father illearth has a bare minimum of abilities, I have found. None which can't be zeroed out as necessary.
treelords are #immobile though, aren't they? Or is that just a zero map move? and in CB they tend to be buffed up with gem production.
the heroes of other races are not necessarily "unique" as mentioned in the database. The test being that if you wish for them you'll get two instead of having the only one disappear, and teleport to your lab.

oppsy meant to say Arch Devils not Demon lord up there, but anyways those are some really helpful tips, thanks! and I'm sure that'll help noname in making some unique monsters and I'm really looking forward to this mod.

Hello, sorry for the delay. I had a computer problem which kept me out for some time. Anyway, I will try to use pre-existing units to create a nation similar to what was described.
