So, lately, my allies have been noticing that my economy is twice that of anyone else's. And they ask for an economic loan...
However, they all refuse my gifts and question my honor in a most "you're lucky you're my friend" sort of way.
Am I missing something? Is there some way to boost their economies aside from boosting trade as dictated in our treaty or outright gifts? It's very frustrating.

Seems like strange behaviour, not just their responses but the idea that if you are twice as powerful as everyone else why give them aid.

Because these other empires are separating me from my enemies. I'm hoping to keep them friends, and I want them strong friends.
I think being American is a bad influence on me.

ok, well as long it is sound strategic sense and not some misguided altruism http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Motives aside, how do I accomplish this feat of econo"magic"?

I jumped to the conclusion we were discussing other human players, which is partly why I found the behaviour peculiar, however are they AI? The AI is rather unpredictable as far as I know.

Oh. Yeah. AIs. I'm just wondering if I was overlooking an item of gameplay that the AIs were requesting. I'm still feeling my way around the game.

I hate to bump a thread, but I really do need a more productive response to this issue.

Okay, I think that's what I needed to know. Thanks, Wombat.

It's not really that the AI is stupid, but rather their anger level towards exceeds their maximum amount for accepting a gift. What is their mood towards you?

The one that needs the help is indifferent. And I tried both a very large sum and a very small sum, and a middle sum. All turned down. As do they turn down any new treaty proposals.

It still is stupid, rationnally they should accept more easily gifts from enemies than friends ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Maybe every alien race has its own version of the Trojan Horse myth.

Sure, it's a cakewalk until the screaming starts.

It's taken me this long to figure out you guys were talking about SE5. For some reason I thought you were discussing a game called Politics.
Not surprising, I suppose, given that by my count 63% of the threads on the first page are OT. Not that that's a bad thing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
