Hello all,

Can anyone tell me if there is research that can be done that will lower the maintenance of ships and fleets? If yes, would you please tell me where that research starts and the branches in the tech tree?

Thanks in advance!

Not in stock but in some mods there is and it's usually in Facilities. But not in research that you put RP into.

Ironmanbc,

Thanks for your reply. So you're saying the ONLY way to lower your maintenance percentage in the stock, unmodded game is probably during racial characteristics where you get to spend your racial points?

Again, thanks for your help.

The stock game has a maintenance lowering facility (Crystalline Restructuring Plant), available only to crystalline races. It lowers maintenance for ships in the same system, so be careful when you send out your built-up fleets. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I forgot about that (Crystalline Restructuring Plant), now if I only played a Crystalline race trait.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

If you have a trustworthy ally who is playing a crystallurgy race, you can do this:

1) give/trade him a colonized world
2) he builds a Crystalline Restructuring Plant
3) he gives/trades the world back to you

Otherwise, you have to capture a crystalline planet without accidentally destroying the facility.

Some of the Culture picks will also lower your maintenance costs.
