I went to www.downloads.com (http://www.downloads.com) today to pick up some stuff, and I noticed a new game. (Screen shot: http://www.stardock.com/products/sf/ss2.jpg )

quote:
Description
Stellar Frontier is a free massively multiplayer game that plays like an arcade game but with an overall strategic look and feel. You are in command of a single starship for a chosen civilization (Humans, Drengin, or Arceans) either offline for fun, or Online on servers that act as other players' star systems, advancing in rank as you gain experience. This allows you to fly different ships and try out different weapons, as well as command AI-controlled ships

Not really. It's not on SE4's control level at all.

The closest thing to SEIV from the free, Online "massively-multiplayer" world seems to be Space www.darkent.com/space (http://www.darkent.com/space) but it is still greatly simplified compared to Space Empire.

Atrocities... I beg to differ
Stellar Frontier is an action game and is played realtime as opposed to SEIV which is turn based
There is no researching or construction in Stellar Frontier or indeed intelligence operations http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
basically the two are completely different http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

[Edit: it's also not a new game.. it's been around for at least 6 months now]

You may be correct. I may have jumped the gun based upon the graphics, and the breif info I got. I download it, and checked it out. It causes an Explore error everytime I run it, but it does look like a promising game for the action jumkie. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

For action junkies (excellent graphics, Fleet actions, Carriers, Trading):

I love it to hunt pirates in my SEIV off-time.

I personally wait on Elite 4 (next year), that's cult !

Pictures from stellar frontier can be used to create some se4 shipsets relatively easily. Or at least use them to complete some other shipsets (i.e Klingons)
