Disabling flags

Is there a way to disable these huge flags and their subsequent stats undearneath the flags? It's blocking the view of the sector map.

I don't know about disabling them altogether, but head on over to SEV: Scenarios & Mods (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=sevsm) and pick up TNZ Small Flag Mod. It doesn't solve the problem entirely, but makes things a lot easier to look at.
