View Full Version : Ship hull research strategies?

Once you have reached a sufficient level of a particular hull to achieve the next size hulls research area, is there any good reason to continue further researching the smaller hull?

I'm sure this boils down to a cost benefit analysis... In any case, what is your particular course? Do you research destroyers only until light cruisers become available? OR do you max out destroyers or frigates choosing their cheaper cost and perhaps mobility over the larger size?

I'm just wondering what strategies are employed in this regard.

Thanks,

Depends on the mod.
Balance mod gives you some nice benefits for finishing the tech area.

I have tended to jump to the next level when it becomes available. I did come across a reason to stick with a particular class though. When I reached lt cruiser I noticed it takes less engines (heavier ship means it is slower. BalanceMod I believe). So if you want to have fast ships for scouting or as escorts then it makes sense to keep researching destroyers so you can have increasingly more effective ships at same speed.
