Just wondering if it is possible to design a strategy that would be like - attack space based units but stay out of range of planet... Or ignore space based units and attack planet... Some combo it seem might allow a particular ship design to act as a CAG for surface attacking ships.
Is this sort of functionality possible in the strategy designs?
Thanks,

I'd like to find out that sort of thing. I find the ability to set up task forces and escorts and pickets etc interesting but haven't goltten around to investigating the possibilities.

You can accomplish what you want by moving around the targeting priorities for the strategy. I believe you can still arrange the targeting priorities at this time despite the current strategies bug.

The relevant strategy options lets you decide which targets to attack, in which order to attack the targets, and the distance at which to engage the prioritized target.
So you can have a particular design( or task force ) attack space based ships and units while ignoring planets entirely. However, there's no way to actually make them stay away from the planet itself when pursuing other targets, so they could be fired upon by the planet when chasing their objective.
