Who can tell me how to retrofit the units that go to the cargo area of a planet?

Units cannot be retrofitted. You have to jettison them and build new ones. Its the price you pay for no maintenance on units.

Well, all units can be jettisoned.

Fighters and Satellites can also be Scrapped, if they are in the same sector with a Shipyard http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

or fighters and sats can be remote-launched from a planet (so can mines for that matter) which never really hurts (frees up storage, keeps the units available for defense), unless you are running into maximum unit in space limits (which really sort of takes alot)
