Today I was browsing around the Toyota website looking at new cars, and when I went to the car customization page to try out their interactive options selector, it starts playing a familiar tune... It's the same music as the "Space Empires V Main 10" song!
This is the Toyota website. (http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WWW.woa/wa/vp?vp=Home.Customization.AccConfig&language=englis h)
Choose "Corolla" from the left menu and it opens a window to configure the accessories. Skip the introduction, and in the next screen where you choose your car options, it plays SEV music.

Doesn't SEV use some freely available music? I think SEIV did, not sure about SEV.

I'm pretty sure SEIV's music was all original. In the manual, the only music credit is the same two people credited for the "Old Sound Effects".

I recall a few years ago someone found Starfury music on the History Channel... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Funny you mention that too, because my dad was looking for a new car the other day, and he was at the Toyota website looking at Corollas, but unfortunately the sound on his PC must have been off because I didn't hear anything... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I liked some of the music in Starfury so much that I asked Aaron about it. He gave me the name of the guy who composed it and said he just bought rights to put it in his game. I checked out the guy's site and found some of it there. Since then, someone told me that the music in the SEIV Gold MUSIC folder came from the same guy. I assume then that anyone can pay him the rights to use it.
(Isn't it annoying how I keep saying "guy" instead of his name? I can't find it....)
I've had similar experiences with sound effects from old N64 games... stuff you hear that often over an extended period of time gets "ingrained in yer brain" and you hear it right away.

Yeah that's about what I was thinking. It wasn't actually written for the game.

Someone should email this to Aaron and SFI. Who knows, maybe there might be a legal issue that needs to be addressed here.

The music is probably fully licensed to Toyota the same it was to MM...

I asked Aaron about the music in Starfury and SE5 once and he told me the composer uses an off-the-shelf software package made by sony that anyone can buy.
The software itself has some sample musical tracks that you can whip up real fast.

There is this song I reaally like, sort of african/asian choir music with a crescendo. It seems to be very popular as I hear it quite alot in documentaries or movies but I have never found out what it is called.

Yep. And anyone with a Mac and a decent knowledge of music theory can make some pretty nice sounding stuff since it comes with GarageBand. One of my old roommates was a (very) amateur composer, and could make some pretty interesting stuff by hooking up a keyboard to his laptop and putting in some drum tracks, etc. You can also get away with not using a keyboard or any other instruments, but it is a bit more tedious to input everything.

I want to say the program Aaron used is AcidStudio by Sony. I can't recall right now, I have it on my home computer but I haven't played with it in years.

That seems likely to be Adiemus -- this the both the name of the group and the title of their 'breakthrough' hit (used in many commercials). Samples available on their site if you have realplayer:

Yeah that seems like it, thanks. There's also a similar one I can't think of exactly. It might be the lion king theme.
no, not circle of life. I guess it's something else.

Toyota's not retarded! I own a fully loaded Toyota Avalon Limited, leather and wood, keyless entry and ignition, built in DVD players, the list goes on. I have never had a single complaint about the ride, quality, craftsmanship, et el.
But I'm not flaming mind you. I'm just saying their not retards. I can think of a few car companies that are retards though. Such as VW for the whole US Phaeton model. What were they thinking?

Japanese cars have consistently ranked higher than American cars and Toyota is one of the few companies that sets the bar above 25 mpg for a large portion of their cars.
