Wraith Bunny
--
Follow only if ye be men of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

8-11 LAND players, 165 provinces (163 land, 2 water)
Simple map using my hexmap editor and a combination of Wesnoth terrain tiles & custom tiles.
--

Yet another experiment gathering dust. This map (unlike some of the others), has no real purpose or theme. It was just a test map making use of some hex tiles from Wesnoth & a few of my own custom works.

Cute. It has a very retro gamer feel to it.

When you created this map, did you intend for the gold colored mountains to be different in some way (other than color) from the grey ones? Are there any other special features that are more than appearence? What about those bones?
Thanks for another one of your creations. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Hmm, seems easy to make wraparound with this one. I suspect there is a demand for these, since the generator can't handle wraparound.

I believe the MP community is longing for more wraparound maps.

It definitely has a Wesnoth look and feel to it. What kinda hexmap editor do you have there? Has it been released yet? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/stupid.gif

Pardon the ignorance, but what's Wesnoth, which editor are you using, where can I get it and where can I also get those tiles? Because I really like the graphics. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The Battle for Wesnoth is a free, turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme. www.wesnoth.org (http://www.wesnoth.org)

They even have quite a useful Wiki for documentation. I am currently eying at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Cartography_for_Wesnoth trying to make use of it for Dom3 maps, too, for example.

We do have a map generator that is capable of making wrap-around maps. But it needs some work to make maps that people find pleasing.

Mostly its in need of a good tiles file it can use http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Nice!

@Edi: Wesnoth is a nice game. You should try it.

Kristoffer - I think they're after your terrain sprites to make the randomly generated maps look nice http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Thanks! That is kind of what I was shooting for. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There is no difference in mountains. Just color. The gold colored ones are Wesnoth desert mountains and the grey are my re-colored variants of those tiles.

In this particular map, the graphics basically just denote terrain. Most variations are just decoration. The only real distinctive one off the top of my head are the farm tiles, which are all farmland with large province type flags. I think that I may have set a few "many site" flags, but I can't remember what scheme I used now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

If there is an interest, I will see if I can come up with some wraparounds.

I love Wesnoth! Very fun game.
The editor is a vb project that I started back in Dom2. It has never been released and is so far from being user friendly at this point, that it will be some time before it ever is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I mostly just need to get motivated to clean it up and finish it. It was more fun to just make maps instead of coding. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Did I mention that I love Wesnoth? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
The tiles are modifications of wesnoth tiles and I did not make any use of their terrain blending, so it is all much prettier in the actual Wesnoth game.

You mean like in this post?

And if you look close at the farm tile in particular, you will see KO's house & grain stalks which I used from his sprites. (Thanks for sharing those KO!)

Ugh. I gotta go back to work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Thank you for "Battle for Wesnoth", it was a nice addition to my collection. I also love Wesnoth. You also cleared up my questions concerning the terrain. I'll be looking for that wraparound map! Thanks again.

Indeed. I for one would love to see a large wrap around map, comprising several shapely (non blobby) continents, with 22 fixed start positions that are relatively well balanced. Alas, I don't know how to mod or make maps and lack the time (currently) to learn. If I apportioned time to learn, I would lose my time to play. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

*the thread stirs for a moment, then begins to move forward. its rotted empty eyes stare blankly ahead, its jaw is skewed and awkward, its flesh worm-eaten. what horrible foul person would bring undead life to a body which wishes only to sleep?*

OK. thread necro just to say:

...I think Wesnoth sucks. I was a cult loyal fan of Master of Monsters, which directly inspired Wesnoth, and MoM is approximately 15 times better. It just had the panache, the feel. You know? It was perhaps even more strategically satisfying; but I can't really say. Whatever, Wesnoth just can't get me going.

If you think you like Wesnoth, download a Gensis emulator and give Master of Monsters a spin.

Also. nice map. I'm going to use it now.

arg reanimation of the foulest kind... dead thread reanimation without a particular reason except to whine :D

"download a Gensis emulator" .... right .... I don't even know what a gensis is but emulators suck... I used one to play speedball 2 once (I found a version not needing an emulator later on which is much nicer.)

While we are being off topic: speedball 2 ROX.. happy amiga days when I played it :D

I'm sorry, but the abbreviation MoM is reserved for Master of Magic. :D

Master of Monsters was great! Many years ago my roommate and I wasted a lot of hours on that game. Military Madness was another cool console strategy game.

Wesnoth was pretty good I thought, but I just went through it once.
