View Full Version : Migration Variables Borked?

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to double-check something for me before I reported it as a bug to Malfador.

Pre patch 1.44, one of the ways I had been slowing gameplay down for myself was to mod the population modifiers, and then change the Migration variables in settings.txt so as to slow pop migration almost to a crawl. By setting:

Race Starting Percent Migration: =96
Race Migration Added 1 Percent Per Population Amount: =6000

I was seeing migration of only 3-4 million per turn, to a max of 40ish million. Combined with drastically reduced pop modifiers and increased population "size," it was slowing empire expansion to the rate I enjoyed.

Just this morning I tired starting a new game with BM 1.09. Despite editing the values in settings.txt, migration is now 250+ million. I tried starting a game in BM 1.08 (known to have worked before), but the same thing happened. Following that, I edited the stock settings.txt in case it wasn't picking the variable up in the mod directories, but the same thing happened...looks to me as if it's a result of stock patch 1.44.

I'm in the middle of a move right now, and my CD is in some box somewhere, so I can't reinstall to test out patch 1.35 right now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif If someone could double check to make sure I'm not screwing up somewhere, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I am using in SE V 1.44

Race Starting Percent Migration: = 1
Race Migration Added 1 Percent Per Population Amount: = 3000

and it has the effect you wanted.

Check the population on your colonies: how much is the migration in %?
Did you make any treaties that allow migration between empires? That can lead to a substantial increase of the population.

Has migration been fixed to allow complete migration and undoming of a planet? I remember previously planets would stay domed until player intervention got rid of the non-breathers.
