Hopefully, we can get the game started Tuesday night (Boston time).

The game name has been changed to HYDRANT.

That could stand for several things, as suggested by Caduceus, QM, shovah, Morkilus and myself:

Hitherto Yon Daft Radiant And Naetherworldly Tyrants

Hellbound Young Dominions-playing Raving Angry Nerds of Tomorrow

Hyperactive youngsters drown rabid angry northern turkeys

Horrible Yonder Dragons Raging And Not Tasty

How Y'all Dripped Really Awful Nether Tea

Heaven Yields Dangerously Radiant and Narcotic Thunderbolts

How your doctor reads all naughty things

Oh no, did I miss out on this one?

Marignon / France
Eriu / Spain

Marignon is Spain, aren't they? Don't mess with the Spanish Inquisition! Umm.. Eriu is Ireland, but that might not be fair. Oh well.

PashaDawg

Hi CUnknown!

I did not hear back from you and was such an eager beaver, I invited other players in your stead. I hope you'll be interested in playing next time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I moved Marignon over to France so they would be closer to Ermor and provide some excellent Inquisitor on Wraithlord Action! Plus, I think Marignon is inspired by Southern France somehow. I think I read that in a post by K.O.

So, I needed someone to be in Spain, and there was no room to stick Eriu in Ireland, when Man was in Britain. But, you're right. Eriu is not the perfect fit for Spain.

Pasha

Ferrosol
July 30th, 2007, 06:17 PM
Maringnon is more italian/papal inquisiton in MA and becomes more spanish convert the heretics in LA so you could probably make an arguement for putting them either way personally I would put them in the southern France/Northen Spain kind of region

Hello:

Here are the nation assignments:

Abysia - Pashadawg
Agartha - Ygorl
Arco - Caduceus
Atlantis - Quantum Mechani
C'Tis - Atul
Eriu - Bluebird
Ermor - Morkilus
Jotunheim - Jurri
Man - Dakar
Marignon - Ferrosol
Oceania - Ramshead
Pangaea - Migaaresno
Pythium - Wahnsinniger
Ulm - Ewierl
Vanheim - Boron

I am happy to say that I think everyone got their first or second choice!

Let's start the game on Wednesday night. That will give everyone a chance to get the map and, perhaps, get the lay of the land with a test game or two, before committing to a final pretender. Don't forget to use the modified .map file I sent yesterday.

When creating your pretender, be sure to have the Complete Conceptual Balance Mod 1.1 activated. Otherwise, your pretender will not work. Also, when you send me your pretender, it will be a .2h file in the "newlords" folder.

Please send me your pretender files by Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at 9:00 p.m. Boston time.

Hosting deadlines will generally be at 9:00 p.m. Boston time consistently.

If you ever need an extension, please just ask. They will be granted liberally. However, if I don't hear from you, then you might get a stale turn.

Please include "Hydrant" in the subject line of all email correspondence about the game. I use an email filter to help me keep track of turns.

Finally, if you need to go out of town and will miss turns, please try to get a sub to fill in for you. That way, the game won't be held up.

Thank you.

Eriu's army got quite a hit, being brave didn't pay it this time or something? Probably not as bad a start as some nations, Arco took quite an income hit as did Ermor. Jotun's flying, but that probably doesn't surprise anyone.

Me, personally, curse the good quality of indies around me, since they do hamper my future expansion but contribute nothing due to getting diseased. Crossbows all around when you don't want 'em, but nowhere to be found when you do.

More precisely, I can't connect to my email and probably won't be able until the university network admins return to work after the weekend.

So, for next day or two, I read only my secondary email. Same first part of the address as in my tkk.fi email, only the end is @gmail.com. Confusing enough?

Sorry.

Ok, Atul.

I have the gmail address for you, too, and will send turns to that address as well until further notice from you. It's easy for me to send to both.

Great, Pasha, thanks. And sorry for trouble.

In other News, heretic brigand infestations have affected holy delta of C'tis. In response, the benevolent ruler did not rouse his troops and oppress everyone voicing their concerns. Instead he's decided to lower taxes to help his people overcome the daily difficulties. So, although this benevolence can be seen in the graphs as income loss and wrongly interpreted as weakness by rival nations, we citizens can only ask in awe: IS HE NOT MERCIFUL? -C'NN

Anyone know someone who might be interested in taking over Ulm? I haven't found any takers so far.

Between when I signed up for this game and when it began, an unexpected vacation opportunity arose, and I'm going to be away Fri-Wed. That's too long a gap to make everyone wait, and too early in the game to stale, so if I can't find a sub I'll go AI- it's just Ulm anyways!

PashaDawg
August 7th, 2007, 10:16 AM
Wraithlord has graciously agreed to sub for Man and Ulm while the players are away. I think that's fine because we are only on turn 4, and the nations are not close to each other.

lch
August 7th, 2007, 10:38 AM
"and"? He needs to use two seperate copies of the game in that case, right? If you use the same serial number for two nations, then they'll both stale.

atul
August 7th, 2007, 11:00 AM
Only if you use two different computers and same serial numbers. You can play hotseat if you want, no?

At least I've been under impression the game checks serial numbers against some sort of computer ID.

Heh, I'm going to the comic-book convention in Chicago this weekend. ...Not my sort of thing, but I got a Plush Goomba out of it, which totally makes the weekend a success.

I was worried it would interfere with my turns, but luckily it isn't.

Plush Goomba, awww. All I got was a Munchkin promo card, an unnecessarily strong urge to find out-of-print Dune boardgame from somewhere and 100€ bill from all the other board games I bought.

Hm, I also know I'm out of town next weekend, and due to delay this weekend we're just /not/ into 3 times per week schedule then. Damn. But, a substitute for one turn is probably not too hard to find, I hope.

Yeah, I've got semi-regular internet access, it's just that I've got lectures from 830 to 1900 (and getting drunk every night afterwards ;p), so I'm really hoping nothing happens that would require too much microing on my part. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hello:

I just hosted turn 34.

Because I will be going out of town on Saturday, I would like to host the turn on Thursday night. That way, I will be able to transfer the necessary files to Bluebird, who will be the host while I am away.

The current turn was hosted with 3.08, and we should continue to use 3.08 until further notice for this game. The patch has some sort of spelling corrections or something that mess up the CB mod... or something like that... maybe it is Mac only... nonetheless... let's stick with 3.08 for this game for now.

Thanks.

Pasha

Jurri
October 11th, 2007, 06:27 AM
What would happen if we were to correct the spelling in the mod? I understand you can alter the mod used rather liberally even mid-game.

PashaDawg
October 11th, 2007, 11:13 PM
It turns out the Ferrosol sent me a fix. It works with this HYDRANT game but not the BARK game. They use different versions of the mods in question.

So, I think we will use 3.10 for HYDRANT, but 3.08 for BARK, until there's a fix for all the mods. (I am too busy prepping for my trip to worry about all these things. Sorry.) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There's trouble somewhere, anyway, that makes it so I can't play either...

RamsHead
October 14th, 2007, 06:32 PM
Here, use this to replace your current CB mod. It should allow you to play the turn. Be careful, if you are in games that are still using 3.08, I believe you will have to keep both versions and switch them around when it is needed.

PashaDawg

Greetings from Athens, Greece.

I don't have the game files with me, but my recollection is that I sent Bluebird a test set of the game files before hosting with 3.10. So, if Bluebird still has those files, you could go back to 3.08.

I appear to have received two of each commander that I recruited this turn (with different names, which suggests to me that they might not be glitchy clones?). It's not as though I had gone on a huge commander-buying spree, so I don't think it'll change the balance much, but I thought y'all should know. Today our forces proved their worth on the battlefield. They were starving. They were unpaid. They were humiliated as the land that was their's by heritage was ripped away from them, devoured by unimaginably powerful commanders. Yet despite all of these things, they prevailed today. The Atlantian scum may have been well fed and well paid, but they lacked heart. May this be a lesson for the oppressors of the world: Some nations will fight until the last man, and we are one of them. Our time likely draws to a close, but let our message reach to those who have lost hope. Hope will keep you alive when there is nothing else, but it does not win battles. Vengeance burns in our hearts. Oceania will take as many Atlantians down in our glorious death as possible. For Balborac!

I didn't have any problems watching the battle - though I do have problems with the result. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
This game has been plagued with weirdness for me, most of it not in my favor. I've had commanders turn into normal troops, or vanish entirely without explanation, and artifacts vanish similarly - things might have turned out differently, I think, otherwise... On the other hand, I did get one horse tribe cavalry leader who one month somehow gained magic paths as though he were an Arcoscephalean mystic (I believe), which was kind of nice... Still doesn't make up for my Jinn disappearing in the middle of *the* critical string of battles!

Anyway, it seems quite likely that WraithLord will win with this next turn. Congratulations in advance on a game well played! It's been a lot of fun...

Jurri

The acute poisoning didn't show up in my battle replay. As far as I saw, he was around at the end of one fight (including not counting as dead in the summary) and gone at the beginning of the next. Stranger things have happened, though, it's true.

Wraithlord has played a politically very savvy game (and not too shabby militarily, either... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) - I don't begrudge him his theft of my tenuous shot at victory at all... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

As an aside, Eweirl maybe hasn't been in an astounding number of MP games, but he's not exactly a newbie. He had Dom2 more than three years ago (I know because I gave it to him http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif)

Hey, *Blushing slightly* http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif, thank you guys for all the compliments but it would seem its too early for them. Ygorl has a huge army besieging my (previously his) fort at Arco and has already breached the walls - so can storm this turn, and though I do hope my army there could stop him, its far from certain.

I think Eweirl had a sound game plan and I thank him again for asking me if I want to take over his place.

Also I must admit that up to this point this has been my most aggressive MP game, as I was involved in bitter wars all the way since subbing. First with Boron, I attacked him while still officially subbing and he came about to give me a hell of a fight. I wasn't at all sure I'll be able to survive him and it had taken all that Ulm had to bring him down. Then came skirmishes with Migaaresno and an all out costly and difficult war with Morkilus. This attitude is usually out of stance for me, cos if I could describe my usual playing attitude (in MOM terminology) it would be pacifist, opportunist.

It is very restricting to play as ME Ulm in terms of research and magical versatility so actually I'm truly surprised I had the luck to even get to this point in the game. What's sure is that last turns are very exciting and I hope I won't get smacked in the face by the next player vying for supremacy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Very impressive, congratulations! That last fight with Agartha wasn't even close, though.

Thanks everyone for the game!

And Oceania survived to see the end! I consider that a personal victory.

Here is the turn file for the first fight for Oceania's capital. password: encase

The last turns were very tense. When Ygorl moved to Oceania's capital I was sure he was going to win. The next email I got from Pasha with the turn file (instead of Congrat Ygorl) I was amazed. Your efforts to stop him were heroic and ultimately successful. I really had no way to intervene (research limitation) so all I could do was cross fingers and move two armies towards Ygorl's VP points. Those same armies are the ones that actually gave me the victory although a lot of luck had to do with it.

Thanks everyone for the game, I'm looking forward to seeing you in future games.

I knew it! The plot to perma-encase my poor WQs was a clever machination planned from the very start!

And of course congrats WraithLord, I can't say I'm unhappy to say goodbye to my crippled-but-a-very-long-way-from-actually-dying-empire... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
