Indy Commander Gems

How do indy commanders get gems? i've fought a few "special" indy commanders, like in faerun, that are stocked with gems. I'm sure that a modder could give them clams or bloodstones to grant gems, but....

do indy commanders also collect gems from #knownfeature magic sites?

Nope, they get gems if they're given #randomequip.
